Guess they are going to focus on their halloween stores now.**

But I'd be pretty pisssed if I was a shareholder of Spirit and DOJ shut down the Jetblue merger. What is Spirit going bankrupt going to do for lack of consolidation? I guess now airlines will bid for the pieces and the gates (not really sure how gate access works or whether that's an asset of spirit that can be sold). Would be curious if focusing on spirit as an "ultra low cost carrier" part of the ULCC market as opposed to just another carrier in the commercial passenger market was based in law.

Not approving their merger was a really bad (and maybe political) decision. They were in bad financial shape when their bid to merge was denied and it has only become worse as the taste of the traveling public has changed. (And the fact that they ran out of first time flyers)

People are willing to pay more for a better travel experience which left to many “no frills” seats for an ever decreasing populous that seems willing to buy into that travel experience.

Certainly fuel cost in the near term has made it worse, but if we get a drop in fuel prices it will be interesting to see how this affects the remaining low cost players.

Agreed…. I’d about rather drive than deal with spirit or any of the other budget airlines.

Im pretty much always going to book delta unless I’m going to somewhere that United or American has a direct flight to out of Jackson.

I'm apparently the luckiest/unluckiest traveler there is. I don't fly a ton but I've had better experiences with Spirit than Southwest, American, and Delta. I've also had decent experience with United. Not sure if I was on older planes that hadn't been retrofitted, but the United planes I've been on have not gotten around to reducing pitch to ridiculous levels and their seats were pretty comfortable, even the cheap seats. I'm perfectly fine with being on a flying bus for the most part, as long as it's not more than a couple of hours, if the price is right. I basically view it as working for money. I can be uncomfortable for a couple of hours to save a few hundred dollars just like I can work for a couple of hours for a few hundred dollars. The most recent time I did spring for Delta because of an international flight, it was awful, although that was mainly just a result of them not controlling other passengers. Southwest is the one that I actively try to avoid if the price and time options are comparable with somebody else.

I think i developed my affinity for delta mainly because ive never had a bad experience and ive been through the Atlanta airport so many times now i feel like i can navigate it better than any other airport.

With that said, I really have only had bad experiences with southwest. Been stranded twice with them. It was not entirely their fault as there was weather issues both times but their schedules are so inconvenient that if anything goes wrong, you’re basically not getting home till the next day. But that could be more so an issue with the schedule coming in and out of Jackson.

This is terrible news because people who fly Spirit could now end up on airlines that I use.

I could Google it but I would rather hear the six pack version. Why did the DOJ nix the merger? Neither with enough market share to make a big effect. Hell they allowed US Airways and American Airlines to merge. What was the issue here? And please save us all the politics on it

Anybody that's flown a "low cost airline" has realized that it's a scam. Yeah your ticket is cheap but by the time you pay to choose your seat, pay for your luggage, pay for your carry-on in some instances, get nickel-and-dimed for everything. You don't end up saving any money. You might as well fly with one of the big 3 and avoid the BS that goes along with flying spirit, frontier etc

Maybe Breeze steps up and grabs some of that market share. Outside of necessity, I just don’t get flying on these cheap airlines. You’re so much better off picking 1 of the big 3 that suits you from your home airport and start amassing status. Use their branded cc to help that along. The perks of that outweigh chasing cheap tickets as a nobody. Not only do you get to judge the peasants at the budget airline gates, you can judge the peasants slumming in basic economy.

I'm done flying, haven't been on a plane since 8/24 after Delta held me hostage in Atlanta for over 24 hours, didn't pay for my hotel and I had 2 cancellations on the return. I retired once and came back as a "consultant" and after my last experience flying I told employer I'd drive anywhere within an 8 hour drive for a meeting but I'd quit again if I had to fly, but no more airlines

My favorite part of flying is sipping my welcome Champaign while all the peasants shuffle past me. However I swear the next one impudent enough to make eye contact shall receive a thorough thrashing from my manservant.

Easy now, some of us peasants actually know the difference between a city in Illinois and a pretentious French swill.

So now where do I have to go to watch a fight at the airport?

Well I can’t answer you then. Because there no other plausible reason. The combined merger would have controlled 9% of airline traffic. Well behind the top airlines.

So I did my own homework on why the purchase by jet blue was shot down. Not suprised to read that Elizabeth Warren led the charge to kill it.

It was all political.

Ahh, you have only done it domestically then. The REAL rush is left or right turn on boarding. You don’t have to worry about even viewing the peasants then.

But I have done it internationally. Only one plane I have ever been on has a left turn been an option.
