Why would anyone want Pope to be fired

Now?? That would mean another hire by Mitch and instead of (hopefully) one more crappy year, we’d be saddled with a new coach and a typically bad Mitch negotiated contract for at least 2-3 more years based on a fresh buyout alone.

And unfortunately there is no way MB would walk out the door with an interim coach. It’s gonna be a tough season but I don’t want Mitch anywhere near another hiring process.

That’s assuming the new AD isn’t one of Mitch’s right hand men/women. If they pick Hill or Baker, it’s still basically Barnhart making the hire for the next 20 years. Capilouto has to go too and Mitch needs to be as far away from UK as possible for a true fresh start

POPE is the Kentucky Basketball Coach for at least 2 more years if not longer.
None of us are happy about it but - It Is What It Is. Get used to it 💙

we'd be better off if he was fired now and we spent a year looking for a coach when you do it at the end of the season you've got like 2 weeks because of the portal

Firing him now would accomplish nothing. It isn't changing the upcoming season and costs us more money since Mitch is still the ad (based on the contract).

Get through this season then go from there. We should absolutely he gauging interest from candidates all season long.

It sucks because we all wanted him to succeed as a former player and obviously great guy. He had no business being put in this position.

Because Kentucky has no possibility of being a title contender until he is gone. I am not suggesting they will be a title contender when they replace him but there is no chance Kentucky wins a national title with him as our coach and for a lot of us not being a contender is unacceptable.

Mitch has made his last hire at UK no matter what happens. He’s got told to go sit in the corner like a good boy when we hired Stein.

Because farrrrrin’ Pope now would be some kind of weird instant gratification for some of these folks despite it making zero sense financially or from a timing perspective.

We have to let the 2026-27 season play out and go from there with a new AD. That’s the only move. There won’t be an offseason firing. There won’t be a midseason firing. I would say “get that out of your thick skulls,” but it’s a waste of time around here. LOL

Yep, totally agree. No other realistic option
