I wonder who the 8 morons are that voted for keeping Cal or wanting him back. Holy crap. Apparently some weren’t paying attention.

Certainly didn’t want Cal to leave. Now I want to give Pope more time because it’s brutally difficult to get someone immediately suited for this job anymore.

Guarantee one of the guys still wanting to keep Pope is Nitro.
A few of them wanted to keep Stoops,.and Cal vehemently and called us names then. We have some that are more loyal to the UKAA than anything. I don't know if they are friends with the administration, running PR for them, or have some mental malfunction like Stockholm Syndrome that makes them grovel to authority.

It's a replay of Mark Stoops last year.

1. We all knew it was time to move on from Stoops
2. But a bad financial forced another wasted year due to Mitch
3. Stoops was on hot seat and couldnt' get kids to come play...so he got a ton of plan B kids that weren't SEC level....and got kicked all around by UL, Vandy, Tennesee, etc... and inevitably got fired the next year regardless.

Is this any different....just plug in Pope for Stoops...Mitch's stupid finger prints are the same.
Their was a select few that didn’t know it was time to get rid of stoops. The same 4-5 guys that defended stoops are now defending Pope and throwing fits on here daily. It’s funny to read.

I understand. I am just not upset that he is getting a third, if not a fourth, year. I cannot help but wonder if removing him too quickly would harm the program more than benefit it, especially as relates to potential replacements. Pope is keenly aware of expectations, so we'll see what happens.
Dusty May replaced his entire team and won a national championship. The centerpiece of his new roster was a transfer recruit that Pope whiffed on.

I voted the option that’s winning in a landslide but here’s my honest answer:

I wanted Cal out, still do. I never wanted Pope, was so furious when new broke that we were hiring him that I got light headed and dizzy. Never fell for all the BS and got on board with the hire like most fans did. Got cautiously optimistic on Pope for about the first month or two of his first year but I still had a good idea he didn’t belong. Year two starts and now I KNOW he doesn’t belong.

At the time I wanted Cal out and Oats in. What I didn't want was to have Cal out and not know who was next.
This. I wanted Cal out years ago but when the move finally happened I wanted Hurley or Oats. Either would have been perfect here.

I was ready for Cal to go. I don’t want Cal back. I did not like the Pope hire. I want Mark Pope to succeed. I really hope he does, but it’s not looking good to me. I think the job is too big for his personality and coaching style.

Assuming we have a season equal or worse to last year, it’s time to move on and Pope got a fair chance. I harbor no ill will towards him and will not scream for his head all year. I hope he shoves this post up my *** with a banner this year. I just don’t see it happening and his lack of recruiting elite talent will likely be his undoing as UK coach.

That’s fair. Nothing wrong with what you’re doing as a fan. I’d like for pope to prove me wrong but I’m about positive he’s not going to make it. Some coaches just aren’t meant to coach at major programs and he’s one of them. His personality, recruiting, and struggles with the media are too much to overcome here.

I gotcha . My point was whether some coaching candidates would shy away from taking the job, if they felt the window for success could be as little as two (2) years ... just a thought I had. I do not pretend to know ... of course.

Pope is brilliant in ways, but he's naive in other ways. He needs other smart people around him. Calipari hollowed out the institutions and the fan base in such a way that it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. It is not possible for one person to do that alone. He needs help and he needs to admit it. The advice people are giving him is a coin flip whether it's good or bad. Putting all of his eggs in the Tyran Stokes basketball who has admitted to just trolling UK is a prime example of naivete mixed with bad advice. He got rid of the two guys who weren't able to contribute. The coaching staff cannot maintain a bunker mentality going forward if they want to be successful. It's fixable, but there needs to be a lot of changes this year. Right now though his sole focus has to be getting players and the only real difference makers are in Europe. I give him credit for flying over there. That's his only hope of finding difference makers. He better figure out the strength and conditioning situation too. There's no reason there are this many fluke injuries in two years. Everybody on this team coming up needs to be in the best shape of their lives, and be ready to play hard every single moment on the court.

I don’t blame Pope for taking the job. It’s his dream job. The issue is that Mitch should never have offered it to him because he had nowhere near the resume to qualify him for it, and he is just not that guy. Not yet, and we will never know if he could be capable of it, because he’ll be gone in a year. Cal was right about some things, this place isn’t for everyone, and you can’t be hidden here. Pope is finding that out.

Exactly. I have no business dating a super model, but if she offers I'm taking it and giving her the most below average weinering of her life until she's done with me. 🤷‍♂️ :ROFLMAO: You can't blame Pope for taking it, he probably wants to succeed at UK more than anybody we could have hired. He just isn't built for a program this intense, or for recruiting at this level. He just isn't cut-throat enough. It's not in his DNA. The balls in his court now though, hang a banner this season or he'll be coaching at a mid major next year.

I drank the Kool-Aid on Pope.

But then I looked at his record. What it Joseph Smith Jr's name was Mitch thinking?

This guy was never more than an average coach in a below average league, but with a financially beneficial situation. And even then - he didn't perform well.

There isn't a single answer in this poll that shows HATE towards Pope. Only people wish we had someone else or kept Calipari. If UK fans HATE Pope then they are not real fans. Your confusing the two.
And what is the point with pope in charge for the next 11 months!!!!!!!!!!, no question about that. It's like saying I really don't like the scenery around here so Im gone poke myself in the eye with an ice pick but the scenery doesn't change.

My thoughts? Pope will either show an improved product next year, or he will be let go. Those are my thoughts.

Why are these the choices?

Why does it have to be Cal or Pope?

I want 2008-2015 Cal forever. I never wanted Pope. I want any coach that can recruit and win at a level that is expected at UK. That’s all.
