LAWRENCE (AP) The Kansas basketball program has petitioned the NCAA to allow new $7 million recruit Tyran Stokes to play his games next year wearing designer sunglasses.
Stokes, according to Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self, has a psychological and emotional condition in which in his own mind he is constantly surrounded by a bright light of self-regard, and the dark glasses will help mitigate the strain. Also, as Stokes himself added during his in-door signing ceremony, "Look how great they look on my face."
Stokes is expected to fill the role of Darryn Peterson, who was last year's top-rated high school recruit, on Self's 2026-27 team. Kansas is also looking to replace most of the rest of its team, including top transfer portal player Flory Bidunga, in hopes of matching last year's Round of 32 finish in the NCAA tournament, and 30-point loss in the Big 12 tournament.
