Not my money, so IDC. Still though....

"His final agreement with the Jayhawks is also a big one. According to Evan Sidery, Stokes is signing a revenue-share deal exceeding $7 million. That makes Tyran Stokes the highest-paid player ever in the NIL era."

He made a smart business decision. Probably going to have the only lime green Lambo in Lawrence.

Who cares what Mo did, just has to remove the comment and file paperwork with compliance (the fun police).

Not mad we lost Stokes, just salty Pope wasted time, energy and effort on him when there were others to focus on.

Yeah I agree. This recruitment cost UK actual players. Not just money. Can you make it up with a couple of big time talents coming for Europe? Maybe. We will see. 7M is insane amount of money for a freshman who's a great player but does anyone think Kansas will be better next year?

Salt on a wound at this point.

He didn't mention the player by name, so he didn't comment "on" or "about" a recruit on social media. Mo was simply ready for the decision to be DONE. I don't care if he thought the kid was coming or not. Commenting on the decision coming up is not the big violation anyone thinks it is.

That said, having heard that Stokes had already signed an agreement with Kansas around the time he visited here, (not that it surprises me, because I never thought he was coming to UK), it really does let you know what kind of trash he is. He'll fit in well in Lawrence.

Yeah, he was trolling UK the whole time. That's the issue. UK paid him to come and visit for the second time and he took the money and ran. Did the C-A-T-S, did the "502" tattoo with the 2012 in the background. Yeah the dude was trolling us and that's fine. He got $7M, good for him. We play them in the champion's classic. Let's rip their hearts out.

Important fact to all of this is the Stokes drama is done! We can move on (should have 2 months ago).

Have to finish the build and get these guys gelling like Pope's first squad did. All on Pope to make sure we have a team that plays better than the sum of its parts.

The best one can hope for in the meantime is that Pope finally learns the assignment and how the game is played. 1. You ask the kid and his attorney/agent if either has already signed an agreement before they visit. 2. You get in writing that they agree to discontinue any communication with you once an agreement has been signed with another school. 3. You either get the kids signed commitment when he's on campus or walk the fk away. 4. THIS is WHY you take NO prisoners, you DON'T LET UP ON ANYONE until the game clock expires, and you don't take any sht from anyone physically, officially, or verbally. 5. NO one in the media or anywhere else IS YOUR FRIEND/ALLY until they are signed and suited up.

Learn these things and you'll stop appearing stupid in the press.

Exceeding 7 million it says, so no way unless he wins every game, the championship and every award he could be nominated for, that’s just way too much for one guy. Hopefully we get two or three more really good players with that.

What's awesome is that Kansas has overpaid for someone with no ethics. How many times does he get knocked flat on the floor before he ends his participation a la JQ and others? If he even gets up

There were multiple recruits rumored not to want to play with Stokes. I believe UK could have landed Holt and probably Collins.

I've heard the same thing. The staff went all in and struck out when the count was 3-0 bottom of the 9th bases loaded. Bad look but it's recoverable. We still have money, and there are difference makers still out there.

Absolutely!

If we don't beat the living shnit out of them for 40min, Pope should resign on the spot. Whether we win or lose that game, his team better play like it's the national title game and everyone expects them to get slaughtered. Make them drown in their own sweat and blood

I bet they paid 4 and said 7. There should be transparency w this bc I think it would help UK.

and for that minor violation all the NCAA would do is tell us we have 2 less phone calls and to write an I'm sorry letter

Pope just doesn't get it. At all.

Go back and watch the clip where he responds to being asked about a GM with some quip about finding someone that will get all the best players for zero dollars. He said that like it was going to bring down the house with laughter.

And it got a couple chuckles, fell flat and left him stuttering.

He had the air of someone who thought having a GM in this age was beneath him. He doesn't think there is a problem. And it's going to get him canned.

"People" said that 3 million was specifically set aside for Stokes. That if we didn't get Stokes then UK basketball can't use that 3 million.

Is that true? I have no clue. People have just been saying that for a couple months.

That would mean Stokes left UK with 4 million to spend, not 7 million+.

$7m rev share is a crazy number, and he’ll almost certainly have NIL options during the season if he’s as good as his ranking suggests. He could make $10m+ next year.

To take the optimistic view on all this, 1) we probably forced Kansas to blow their budget, and 2) we should now have more money to build out our depth a little. If we’re lucky, Stokes will take a page from Darryn “DNP” Peterson and sit half the season, tanking their chemistry while he’s at it.

Ah yes, we tricked Kansas into taking the number one player in the country. That pope guy is actually as smart as they say.

I hear you. But that was just for stokes and probably not to fill out the rest of the roster. I think If we somehow had Graves, and one of Momcilovic or the euro kid ready to sign, I think they’d get the money for two of those. Well if they’re at all serious about winning. I don’t think we’ve spent very much on the players we have, compared to top 30 rosters anyway. I think we can go after two big dogs for sure now. Of course if winning is the goal. lol. Who the hell knows though.

Yes it's minor, but if the university has to self reporti the violation to the NCAA, that'll be humiliating in itself. Then the subsequent news stories follow

I think this is the 1st time in the history a kid signs a big NIKE deal and ends up at an ADIDAS school. Pope couldn't even get the kid to sign even with the push of Nike. This still falls all on Mitch hiring a coach that was no where qualified to coach at a school like UK! Here we are having to sit through a pointless 3rd year.
