Pope just cannot coach. I mean as a whole body of work. Most coaches that excel in most areas still have a weakness or two. Pope does no part of the job well. maybe he's not even terrible at anything? But he does nothing where anyone can say, yeah but!

He's a nice guy. He's a positive guy. So are millions of other guys.

Portal players and high school players are just putting UK on their list because of what the last coach done here. That sucks but it’s the reality of the situation. Everyone knew that Pope has never recruited elite players before so why did we expect him to be able to do it here

And you have to fire him because he's a trash recruiter like the guy above said.
His only hope is his assistants are good.

And he still hasn't hired one
You can not fire someone because they are a trash recruiter. Yes, trash recruiting WILL often result in less-than seasons, but you'll never win a case based on "his recruiting sucked". It's the coaching that matters. There are coaches out there, said this before, that can take the exact same players Pope has had, and get better results.

He has put forward this hypothesis before, but I think it's letting Pope off the hook. He didn't sign other guys for the same reason he didn't sign Stokes, they don't want to play for him.
I have to agree with this. The idea that recruiting Stokes meant we had to stop pursuing anyone else regardless of position doesn’t even make sense unless we were literally planning to blow the entire budget on him.

When that poor recruiting, leads to poor rosters. Which leads to losing seasons, he will be fired. Pretty retarded take, tbh.

So it was all nothing but a troll job. 502 tatt and UK game in the background, but then even coming to visit knowing he already signed. I'd have welcomed him if he chose UK, but a huge part of me is kind of glad he didn't after knowing more about how he treated the school and the fans (I don't care how he treated Pope - if he's too naive to see that he was being trolled, he's not the coach for UK).

Completely unnecessary troll job. He already had signed with the rug doctor.

He absolutely can be fired for poor recruiting, but UK would be on the hook for the buyout. At this point, it would be money well spent.

The guys Pope got anyway are all the same types of guys I would have expected Pope to have gotten if Stokes had never been born. I still don’t see any reason for the held off/overfocused narrative. It plays well in the media so we’ll keep seeing it. But I don’t think it’s real.

Pope would have been dumb to NOT try to recruit Stokes. Of course he tried. But it’s gonna be a pretty tall order anyone trying to convince me if he’d ignored Stokes we’d have gotten someone better than who we got.

Listen,,,, hate on Pope all you want, I don't care- but this tweet is click bait for one, but also sums up the ridiculousness of fanhood. A- its not true, Pope made many attempts at many people and I know because everyone trashed him every time someone signed somewhere else over the last year. Also, I watched this fan base trash him for MONTHS for not going hard enough at Stokes or scoffing every time he went after someone not named stokes. Pope has his issues- no doubt- but fans are bi-polar
