Probably not. They are currently 18-11 and have the 2nd best record in the AL. Baseball organizations don't make decisions based on feel good stories.I wonder if the Rays are kicking themselves about now.
Dak and Jake make me proudI think there's a solid case to be made that Jake Mangum is the most Mississippi State athlete ever.
What is the story behind this?

Im still slightly confused...so they met at a player event in preseason or something when Elle got her Ray's card of Mangum signed. Then Elle gets the custom Mangum jersey for Easter. Then they have seats on third base line and talk to Mangum again, then they move to the outfield during the game and Mangum throws her the ball? This'll give you a great summary. I assume this is the follow up where they meet Jake again and sit in a box.

How a small gesture from Jake Mangum turned into a big thing for one Pittsburgh family (and parents everywhere)
ARLINGTON -- When Nellie Hestin finally finished screaming with excitement from her family’s seats along the third-base line Sunday at PNC Park, she figured that was it, her husband and their two kids getting a souvenir baseball and creating a lasting memory for the Franklin Park family. I may have it wrong, but I got the impression their normal seats or seats for that game where along 3B line. Didn't think they talked to Jake from there.Im still slightly confused...so they met at a player event in preseason or something when Elle got her Ray's card of Mangum signed. Is that the story? But now Mangum says he didnt realize it was her when he threw the ball up in the stands? I guess that makes sense if he thought they were sitting on the third base line, its just a little surprising to me. I guess he thought he had ANOTHER 9 year old fan

I assumed the dad took the two kids out to left to get close to him while he was in the field. Players probably toss balls up into the stands out there and maybe they were trying to get one.
He sees the girl with his jersey on, not realizing it's this girl he met before, and tosses a ball their way because of the jersey.
Anyway, that's my guess.
Yeah, but they base them on attendance, online and broadcast viewing, sales of team paraphernalia, etc. In addition to being a fantastic player, Jake is a walking positive billboard for Pittsburg now.Probably not.
