Nike isn't the problem.
If we had a proven coach, or at least one not on the hot seat, I would agree. I do think Pope's lack of success (getting guys to the pros, showcasing talent in an offense, etc.) ultimately weighs too much against the brand.
Of course, Nike wants Stokes at UK and he will have many more eyes on him (TV) if he comes here. Question is, is he okay with that big of a spotlight?
Then again, it is not like Bill Self's Toupee has had any more success than Pope the past two years:

Exactly. If my team said an order was 60% probable, I would not put it in the "realistic" forecast for the quarter.

Both can be true at the same time. He is showing a lot of narcissism and "look at me" (redundancy on purpose) and could very well be a cancer on a team. KU is used to that - they've had a lot of those so this kid fits Self and KU's historical type of players. He does not at all fit Pope's style.
But if we get him, maybe the staff can make it work and maybe he's not as he currently appears. I'll be excited, albeit curious and somewhat worried that he may be worse for the team than we wanted.

lol Pope already had the last nail in his coffin. stokes was the only thing that could remotely save his job. Next year will be yet another Pope team that lacks talent and that will lose atleast 13+ games.
Essentially the same money means a done deal to KU. Self came back for him. Matt Jones knows in his bones it's to KU.
