Brooks is building a powerhouse isn't he?
Brooks is a great coach and a great recruiter, no doubt. But they lost 4 starters to graduation (all WNBA picks) and two young key reserves portal who were highly ranked in HS. So similar to us, they had some big holes to fill
Graduation:
- 6-3 F Teonni Key: 11.4 PPG, 7.4 RPG, drafted WNBA
- 5-9 G Tonie Morgan 13.8 PPG 7.9 APG, drafted WNBA
- 6-2 F Amelia Hassett 10.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG, drafted WNBA
- 6-1 W Jordan Obi 9.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG, drafted WNBA
- 6-0 W Gilvin, 6MPG, 9th in miutes
Portal losses:
- Elsa Vadfors, 6-5, C, Fr. (DNP) was a developmental player, injured
- Lexi Blue, 6-2, G, Jr. (2.1 ppg) → Northwestern (8th on the team in MPG), 2024 #40 recruit
- Kaelyn Carroll, 6-3, F, So. (3.4 ppg) (7th on the team in MPG) 2025 McD A-A, #15 recruit
Returning:
- 6-5 Sr C Clara Strack 16.9 PPG, 10.1 RPG
- 5-8 Sr G Asia Boone 10.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 2.3 APG 6th woman role with 19 starts
- 6-1 So W Dominika Paurova - strong freshman season at Ore St but has been out injured for two straight years.
- one deep bench player (Brooks) unlikely to be in rotation
Portal Gains: only O'Neal really stands out
- 5-9 Sr G Diana Collins from bama, 28.1 MPG, 8.4 ppg (unranked in portal, which surprises me, perhaps overlooked)
- 6-2 Sr SF Ayanna Patterson from UConn: #4 prospect in 2022, super athletic, but was deep bench at UConn who has yet to make an impact (#103 player in Portal) 5 MPG, DNP in their few close games. 1.7 PPG, 1.4 RPG
- 6-4 Jr PF Me'Arah O'Neal from UofF - 13.6 PPG, 6.4 RPG McD A-A in HS (#28 player in portal)
They have the #6 recruiting class with 3 McD A-A guards:
So O'Neal was a big need for them: immediately steps in as the starting PF to replace Teonni. They will need all 3 freshmen to contribute immediately in a rotation at 1-3 along with Boone & Collins. As of right now they have plugged holes in the portal, not made their team substantially better. But amazing recruiting class could come in and make a difference.
Actually pretty similar to UNC's situation.
