He’s had a lot of character issues reported on him. Honestly, we can’t control that part. We just hope that if he signs, he’s a good teammate.

And yeah, sometimes players think their coaches are dorky but still like them. I know players regularly did Calipari impressions. I know players regularly did Tubby impressions also. I just hope for the best, but no, young dudes roasting coaches is nothing new.
That's something that has had me skeptical about all the hysteria around Pope being an off-putting weirdo. You're telling me that out of all the old white dudes who coach college basketball, Pope is the only one who "can't connect" with 18-22 year old dudes and is so strange that he runs off recruits? I don't buy it.

Agreed man. Gregg Popovic, Brad Stevens, Todd Golden, TJ Otzelberger etc are all varying degrees of weird. Think Pope is definitely his own brand of weird. Not sure I think it ultimately matters. Give me money, give me PT, give me brand power, give me NBA path etc. that’s what matters. Recruiting is far more transactional than relational compared to prior eras imo.

Explain “hearing”. Elaborate.
I think most "Anons" (accounts beginning with Anon followed by random numbers) are trolls from other fanbases who have nothing better to do than get UK fans riled up.

Or, maybe, it's an entire conspiracy from our enemies like Duke and North Carolina.

None of them want UK to be great again. They are afraid of us succeeding again.

Therefore, they all work together by creating "Anon" accounts. Then, those "Anon" accounts rile up the UK fanbase. That weaponizes the UK fanbase against it's own best interests. The "hardcore" UK fan then proceeds to get on Twitter to yell at potential recruits regarding why they have not committed yet to the greatest program to ever exist with the greatest fans in the history of the world.

Our adversaries know that Pope is just too good, and too smart for them. They are scared. They cannot compete against Pope directly on the recruiting trail. Thus, they must resort to cyber warfare.

Now, the "Anons" have turned the UK fanbase against Pope AND prevented all our top target high school recruits and top portal targets from wanting to play here. This has also spread to major news sources who then report out regarding UK's struggles, even when spending more than all others (another psyop).

Our adversaries are winning through the usage of "Anons", plus the spreading of false information. Our adversaries are scared of UK basketball being made great again through the fearless work of our leader, the (m)Pope. They are scared of the Pope rebuilding from the ashes of Wildcats that were burnt from the evil Cal. UK basketball will once again rise like the Phoenix that it once was!

Praise Pope!

I’m somewhat pro-Pope so I think you got the wrong guy. But that was admittedly creative, well-written and funny. Good one.

The Pope problem is not his weirdness. He doesn’t have a reputation of getting a player to the league.

Players do not improve playing for him.

If they can’t see that for themselves there’s plenty of people telling them that.

Pope can overcome that with money on players that aren’t going to the NBA.

Stokes just does not want to play for Pope.

He might anyway if the money becomes just too stupid to turn down.

Stokes is unique because he’s going lottery next year even without any improvement his one year in school.

The very point you made is why I see why getting Stokes would be huge for Pope. It would create a perception he gets players to the league. Do I hate the perception that coaches get kids to the league when they could play for Ball State and still be the #1 pick? Yes I do. But that’s just how the cookie crumbles. If enough people believe, it’s true even though it’s false. If that makes sense.

I think that is absolutely more of a problem for his recruiting than "weirdness." A coach could probably eat his own toenails in front of recruits if they still thought he would make them a lottery pick

Not sure how accurate this account is but this is essentially what Pilgrim has said multiple times. He likes to control the narrative. We likely aren't going to know when he will commit. It will probably just happen.
I trust < 10% of the UK “inside“ information posted on X and < 2% of posts re. Stokes. That said, this would not shock me. He beats to the tune of his own drum for sure. Kid has had all the final offers for a while and has known exactly where he is going I’d think for weeks. Just likes playing games and controlling the narrative for clicks and buzz.

Oh well, we need him in LEX…or to know he isn’t coming so Pope can move on to a much lesser option. Thus, we have to stay tuned I guess.

Doesn't know what the job entails lol. If I'm a carpenter and I'm hired by a construction crew I think I know what the job entails. Son, you play basketball. That's your job. Pick an employer already. Jesus. That kid needs a strong male influence in his life.

Once he commits it's all over. All of the build up and excitement. Let the kid be a kid. Let the number 1 player have his time. Only live once. I won't call this kid weird because he won't pick a school when we want him to. As a fan yes it's like hurry up already. But if I was in his shoes it's like weigh my options.

Teams are changing everyday. Players and coaches. Heck we don't even have a complete coaching staff and y'all think Stokes is supposed to just say ok UK it is..... Be happy he's even considering us. He owes nobody a damn thing. The fans might be the weird ones. He's gonna pick UK or another school. Quit investing so much In it if it's offensive to you that he's taking his time.

Show him some love. Don't keep crapping on the kid. Pope hasn't sniffed a player of his caliber so I can see where he's a little iffy. If he gives Pope a chance that will be kind of crazy actually.

We go from thinking we dont have a chance to feeling entitled to his commitment. Just chill on him a little. He's a kid making a huge decision. And I'm sorry when you're Tyran Stokes it's a little different than most recruits.

You want a weird coach, look no further than Joe Mazullo/Celtics. Hurley is a total weirdo, but players get pumped by it and rally. The thing about all those guys is they have edge, badass. It's not different than a Harbaugh in football. Weird can work, a giant pussycat doesn't. The kind of weird matters.

At this point, UK/Pope so far from succeeding not sure they are that worried.

I think it all depends. I wouldn’t say any of these guys are giving off BMF vibes.
