Scott optioned down for Carl Edwards Jr.
Some fun facts about Carl Edwards Jr., who is about to become the 18th pitcher used by the Mets this year, a far cry from last year's record of 46.

1) He was drafted in 2011 in the 48th round, the 1464th player drafted that year. He beat the odds by appearing in his first MLB game in 2015. He crushed those odds by still being around 11 years later.

2) His nickname, per his Mets.com bio, is the "Stringbean Slinger". That's a compliment, I guess?

3) I remember him being pretty good once upon a time.

4) He has definite star quality and a very nice smile.

Lindor going to be out until at least a month from now. Will be in a boot for three weeks and then will get re-imaged. Yuck.

Now, imaging if boy genus kept Nimmo and McNeil. Signed Alonso back and went out and made the trade for Robert J and signed Bo.

He would be looking like he knew what he was doing and I am 100% sure, we would not have had a 12 game losing streak. We would have been in much better shape when Soto got injured as we would have still been very solid with Lindor out.

Hopefully the Mets can activate Stearns from the IL list

He’s been on the IL for close to 2 years

Really need to get rid of Mendoza and Stearns but for whatever reason, Cohen is afraid to. Dumpster fire roster, players out of position, lineup tweaks every day, and it always looks like Mendoza couldn’t care less. Aside from a few players, this is a very bad team

I’ve been the bandleader for Mendoza to be terminated !

He inspires boredom !

His lack of management and communication with the 9th inning fiasco with the relievers last night vs twins just reinforces how over his head is.

Red Sox and Mets are in same trajectory.

Red Sox fire their bonafide legitimate manager - and we give a vote of confidence to our hapless manager

I would take Cora in a heartbeat to manage the Mets - or Joe Girardi - ahead of Beltran

I wonder if Cora's sudden availability means that Mendoza is on a shorter rope than he was a week ago. Especially since, IF Cohen is interested, he knows he may soon have a competitor for Cora's services just a couple of hours down the Turnpike.

It would behoove Mendoza to win at least five of the seven remaining games on this homestand.

Not disagreeing with you, but you should know better than to pay any attention to anybody's vote of confidence in anything.

Well, not the worst team of MY lifetime. So suck it up, child. ;)
He's about 34-35 years old. He's a drama queen.

1993 says hello-- 59-103 (.364).
2009 and 2017 too--- 70-92 (0.432).

Alex Cora played for the Mets in 2009 and 2010-----he's got the right experience to handle this!!!! And he stayed above the "Mendoza line." ;)

On January 22, 2009, Cora signed a one-year deal with the New York Mets.[14] During the 2009 season, he appeared in 82 games, batting .251 with one home run and 18 RBI. On November 30, 2009, Cora re-signed with the Mets for the 2010 season, with an option for 2011.[15] He was released by the Mets on August 7, 2010[16] — at the time, he was batting .207 with no home runs and 20 RBI, having played in 62 games of the 2010 season.

I would think a loss in the 2nd game of this doubleheader, which would result in a home sweep at the hands of the Rockies, might be enough to seal Mendoza's fate. If not another series loss to the Nats could.

I think he gets the homestand.
Ran the "odds" through Grok if the Mets lose the second game. Grok said 0% (Caveat- I used Grok for work stuff, and it is often wrong):

If they lose both games (or look particularly bad doing so), the pressure spikes significantly. Some analysts and former executives have suggested his leash could run out in the next few weeks if the losing continues, potentially by late April/early May or before Memorial Day. Insiders still say it's "too early" overall and that broader roster/injury issues (not just managerial tactics) are the bigger problem, with player support for Mendoza holding for now.

The "odds" feel more like low single digits for today, rising to maybe 20-40% chance of him being gone by mid-May if things don't improve dramatically. This is all speculative—no one has hard probabilities.

Also asked if the Cora firing affects the decision:

Mendoza has some player support so far. The front office (Stearns) has been heavily involved in game planning, so some see him partly as a scapegoat. Juan Soto is expected back soon, which could flip the narrative. The Mets' issues (hitting collapse, injuries, inconsistent pitching) go beyond just the manager. Cora had a longer track record and bigger contract; Mendoza's deal has less guaranteed money left.

If the Mets lose both games (especially if they look flat or make poor in-game decisions), the pressure becomes much more intense — fans will scream louder for change, and media will pile on with the “Boston did it, so why not us?” angle. It meaningfully raises the short-term risk of him being gone in the next 1–3 weeks if the skid continues. But don't expect an announcement between games or immediately post-doubleheader; that's not how these things usually go.The Cora firing makes the Mets' situation feel more urgent, but Stearns/Cohen still seem inclined to wait a bit longer unless things completely implode. Things can shift fast in New York, though — especially with the rival Red Sox setting a precedent for bold early moves. Check the scores; today's results will dictate how loud the calls get.

Grok told you that Soto is expected back soon? An error THAT egregious calls the whole analysis into question.

Yes it did. I do a lot of highly technical work in a bunch of different areas. We get garbage like this quite a bit from various AI tools (Grok, Claude, ChatGPT). It's quite hilarious that some people are shaking in their boots about AI and job security, especially in my profession. That may be true in limited cases. I once got into an argument with Grok about the child of a very famous person and whether the child was still employed at a certain place. Two people who worked at that place told me the child left in 2022. I went back and forth with Grok three or four times, and Grok was adamant the child was still employed at that place.

The team did not respond to Mendoza all late last year.

Team has now taken on his apathetic attitude and personality

He should have been left in Chicago

Mets getting what they deserve with complete mismanagement !

Citifield will be a morgue this year wirh high season ticket terminations

Eventually the HC will get fired. It’s not going to change the situation. The GM should be fired and probably won’t be for some time. Baseball is an execution / skill sport. People can throw all the chairs they want, it won’t make players hit better. It’s not football.

Mendoza is completely lost…as is Stearns…and it seems as if Cohen has lost interest. Maybe the Wilpons weren't that bad after all. 😳
