Sounded like wishful thinking on Willie’s part
huh? why would i wish that?

Ryan's status is definitely something to monitor. at this point in time, it is very dubious if he'll be ready for the start of the season.

my prediction is that he wrestles very sparingly if at all the first half, but that he ultimately wrestles 2nd half.

i know you might not like this news, but it's 100% a thing. he got everything in his knee done.

I would of guessed that anyway. We can never have nice things in season anymore

I am not sure what you mean by "turn it around next year and year after", but I think most see Iowa fighting for a trophy in March much like they have in the recent past. Ending up in 3rd to 6th is far more likely.

"Turning it around" and challenging for the top two spots at Nationals is probably a bridge too far if that is the threshold that you are using.
I guess I meant not going backwards like many were predicting for next year, and maybe challenging for 3rd if we have a healthy line up

Castillo to ASU. Wonder what that does with seacrist also coming in and being a career 25er it looks like. Can’t say that for many but wrestled 113 as a senior and was #1 in the country. Really tough kid and can have success if he puts on the size if not could end up like a Kurt mchenry

Much rather have that and have his knee better rehabbed and ready for the post season, than rushing it and having what could be a career ending injury. Wish we would have redshirted Spencer and just rehabbed his 1st ACL tear all year.

I agree with taking it slow with Crookham, give him as much time as he needs. I see what you are saying with Lee, but I'll disagree with it....if Covid wouldn't have cancelled the 2019-2020 season, he would have had his 4 titles in 4 years locked up without spending 2 extra years taking a redshirt year and then battling injuries his last year. I can see letting him heal up, but the thing that prevented him from 4 titles was Covid, not his knee.

May have prevented the second tear of the original tear? Hard to say. You’re right about Covid year, he was relatively healthy, and the winning title with no ACL’s would have been his 4th, in dramatic fashion. I can only imagine how strong he would have been if he could have been doing squats and deadlifts with healthy knees in college.

We all knew it would take some portal help and with any luck our boys will stay healthy and we'll have a chance at 3rd/4th come March. Much better than we were looking a few days ago.

Lee going down to Purdue boy was horrible. Probably my worst Iowa loss ever!! I so wanted Lee to get 4!!

With Iowa likely not going to national duals we really would only need Crookham for ISU, even then I think we can win that without him.
Do you know why we aren’t going? I know the Ivy teams can’t because of finals. Vtech has finals that week but are trying to work around it. Probably want to showcase their shiny new team. I realize from here on out, okyst is going to win it easily and collect the biggest check from their billionaire who sponsors it, but it was a fun tournament to watch because there was much ducking going on. Guys did get beat up pretty bad, while PSU guys were relaxing watching college football.

It might be a better financial move and training cycle move to sit out the NDI and schedule 2-3 solid home duals on a prime date/time. Think Saturday night against UNI (Yes I know that is probably unlikely but it would sell lots of tickets) or Stanford/Cornell/ Oklahoma/Columbia/NDSU/SDSU. It would eliminate the weak schedule and lack of convenient date excuse that has been used here.

I hope we continue to go to the duals. It was awesome seeing teams show up (minus one) and not duck matches. All the **** fans talked about PSU not showing up last year it would be sad to not go now this coming year. Man if we drop this most of our starters might roll into the post season with 10 matches before long unless they decide to show up at the SS and pad their records against a bunch of D3 and D1 backups.

That sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like our staff wants to have anything to do with scheduling UNI for duals these days.

They need to go to more opens and get more opportunities at matches.
The limited number of matches added to a stacked big 10 schedule really hurts against the Ivy and ACC puff schedules.
This used to be the Missouri way, now Cornell benefits a weak schedule to get great records and GREAT NCAA tournament seeds.

Iowa needs to be in that 25 match area with good records!
