Consider this, Donovan just got fired from his job. In other words he didn’t do a very good job coaching. And remember, it’s been almost 20 years since he’s coached a college team. The college game has changed a lot since then. I’m 58 and I know he’s older than me so I don’t know if he can adapt to the crap college game that is now.

Anyone is better than CMP right now. Did I want Donovan in the past? Absolutely. But he hasn’t coached college ball in over a decade, he’s in his 60s and who knows how well he can recruit. The recruiting was one of the reasons he left for the NBA. To be honest, I’d like to take a chance at an up-and-comer, someone hungry. A Shertz or Lucas.

Would I take Donovan or Pearl for a good 5-7 years? I probably would, but that’s not what I personally want.

He didn’t get fired, he left on his own and the bulls wanted him to stay.

He’s on a very short list, sure. I’d absolutely take him. Pope is absolutely not the guy, and the sooner he’s removed, the sooner the next coach (maybe Donovan) can go about fixing the past six years of ****.

If we want a proven coach with Final Four/National Championship experience under his belt, then Billy Donovan might be the only realistic option currently available.

Otherwise, we'd need to go the up and comer route with a younger guy and hope he has success. This is a more risky option, obviously, but might be necessary because there just aren't that many "great" coaches out there right now. And of the few that exist, most are already in ideal situations they aren't likely to leave. Our next coach needs to be the closest thing to 1989 Rick Pitino as we can find.

My short list to replace Pope, considering the new AD is not a Mitch Barnhart soy boy protege is…

1a/b. Todd Golden
1a/b. Jai Lucas
2. Billy Donovan

There’s a few others, but we have a LONG way to go before we can seriously entertain this subject.

Yes, and I hope they ask Mark about Billy Donovan every time he does an interview or media appearance. That's how frustrated I am right now. all good will has been burned up.

I would take him and be happy about it, but I don’t ever see it happening. He’s this program’s white whale.

I still don’t understand why they are bringing Pope back for year 3! This is a total disaster!

Donovan is on a short list of the best college coaches in the modern era. Of course you try to get a coach like him. Coaching in the NBA is a completely different situation than what happens in college. There are tons of business side factors that ultimately limit (or help) what happens on the court. The Bulls, as an organization, isn't at the top any more.

When Billy G was hired, I was adamant about wanting Cal.

When Pope was hired RealDeal and myself (on the pay site) were the two most outspoken against and we both wanted Billy D.

I am hoping history repeats itself. (Minus the last 5 Cal years).

Hire Donovan as an assistant for 10 mil. I think that would paint a pretty clear picture.
