Sadly not going to happen until after next season at the earliest. Thus, no need to waste words on the subject now. Just would get us all riled up.
Anyone with a better resume which there are plenty of…. Pope got the job because of where he played in college not his head coaching record.
The program is doing to suffer in ways we cannot tolerate for the next year because of an incompetent AD and a spineless administration. UK and Pope have been embarrassed this offseason.
Next season will be 11-19 or worse. Pope is building a roster that you see at the likes of Boston College.

An equally important question: if we keep Pope, what kind of season will we be looking at? 10 wins? Couldn’t any other coach with a pulse exceed that?
At this point in the portal season and the disaster his roster building has become, I’m not sure how the program can justify keeping him. I realize the season and roster are a loss no matter his employment status at this point (because this should have been addressed immediately after Iowa St), but this program is seriously dead. Beyond the delegated Revenue Share for MBB, it’s glaringly obvious UK cannot compete with the rest of the major programs in the NIL era!
Pope and JMI are the current smokescreen punching bags, but it will become even more obvious when the next AD tries to get the next coach to compete with the same financial limitations.

The next big hire at UK is a competent AD who will need to address our problem in Men’s Basketball Problem.

I don’t know. It’s frustrating because I see little glimmers of hope and then we miss on a recruit or bad preparedness in a game. We see little flashes of hope and then **** the bed somewhere else. It’s getting old
$22 million is NOT a financial limitation! Our problem is much greater than $$$$$.
I’d give him this week to turn it around and if he doesn’t, fire him. Let Mo be the coach and start your search.

We could do better with any interim coach while figuring it out.

Until UK hires a top tier AD that's not satisfied with just being mediocre, we're hosed. Sadly Capiloutou won't be any help, he'll take the easy way out. UK is in desperate need of new leadership across the board.
What's worse than some of the beatings coming? Having to listen to some chronic crybabies all season with their constant "faaaarrrrrr Pope" posts. If some of you don't think the way the fans overreact to everything has an effect on recruiting and public perception, then you should pay attention. Yes, the program is nowhere near elite right now, we all know it.
We’re not firing Pope. He will win just enough to keep his job. Sweet 16 is the peak.

Yeah to the ones saying Pitino and Bruce pearl our current ad wouldn't hire them. Plus they are too old don't know if theyd take it. Pearl is living cushy life and St John's is the best it's been in years. It's looking bad right now but maybe some good players will jump in last day or we can get lucky with international. If stokes don't come here we'll have lots of money I know that.
Or what UK is likely to do. Wait until the portal is about to open next year, offer one guy and then panic because they are pressed by time and hire Walter McCarty
Somebody like Jai Lucas. An up an coming coach that can recruit and has been at the highest level as an asst. You get him before he wins big at his current location.
What is up with all the Jai Lucas love on this board? He had a good year in a bad ACC. He shouldn't even be in anyone's top 30 list at this point in his career.
Matt Jones praises Lucas all the time and some on this board follows suit.
My question is do you really think mark Davis is going to fire pope?? Assuming he’s the next AD since there’s been zero talk of that position just tells me it’s going to be Mitch puppet so do you really think Davis will do that?? Especially if ole Eli is still around, wonder when the “learning tour” or whatever it’s called is over

We were a year late hiring Jon Sumrall. Will Stein may end up as a decent consolation, but I believe Sumrall is going to win big at Florida.
Josh Schertz is the best up and coming coach in college basketball. If Todd Golden goes to the Warriors, I look for Florida to beat us to the punch again and hire Schertz.

After next season we fire Pope and hire Jai Lucas. He's young, a good coach, can recruit and connects with his players. Do it.
To be fair, I think everyone that gives a crap is already riled up.
