Just on the merits...If his name was John Doe, and his resume was being ok coaching at Utah Valley State and BYU he would not have gotten a sniff of this job
But he was a beloved Captain of our 96 nat championship team and beloved by the fan base
I hate it in one sense because as a human being I really like him but here you are measured on winning games, not how nice a guy you are.
Afraid barring getting Stokes or some stud from Europe going to be a long tough season playing on Wed of the SEC tournament and a first round loss in the big dance if we get in
I will gladly eat crow if I am wrong

I have no idea if Pope is a good person or not butI think he plays up certain facets of his persona like staging videos of airport reunions to emotionally manipulate the fanbase.

Barnhart should be run out of Lexington but instead he received a golden parachute. UK basketball is screwed.

He's having to do it with one arm tied behind his back as well. The JMI deal was the noose for recruiting. How long is the deal? The program will never will recover from it.

He, not the fans, not the university, not the BB program are going to come out of this in good shape.

Don’t think this had anything to do with JMI. It’s about Pope not being skilled in creating and holding leverage. This was a soft commit just two days ago.

JMI has nothing to do with it. its about pope. look at freemans comments....he wants to be coached hard and be coached by someone who put guys in the pros. pope offers neither.

Not a JMI issue. Agents know all about JMI and they are sending recruits ans transfers our way. This is all on the HC.

He wasn’t. My hope was the program could carry him until he grew into a competent coach . Kinda like Sheyer at Duke.

Appears to be a worse version of Davis at UNC though.

We’re going to hear a lot of weird crap from CMP this next season. The fanbase is restless and growing increasingly peed off. As summer becomes fall and into winter, we’re going to get louder and CMP will be hearing our transgressions more than ever. He won’t be able to ignore it much longer or pretend it’s only a fraction of the fanbase.

Yeah, the BYU fans, who are mostly Mormons, who known for their “energetic” personalities, calling one of their own “weird” and “fake” is a massive red flag.

Mitch should have known to try to make sure he got the right coach this time after the BG hire. He let a hiring firm recommend BG and it was a disaster. So he hired Pope who would not have had a chance to coach here if he hadn’t of played here. Now we are struggling to bring top notch players here when we have everything in place to do so as far as money and the brand. Not to mention everything else that should have players wanting to come here. Word is out Kentucky is not a destination for the best players anymore as long as Pope is here, something is wrong and this coming year could be worse than ever.
