Lasondra Barrett called a school regarding a prospect & asked, "Did you offer this?" The answer: "No, we didn't offer that."

I remember Tyler Barnes with Iowa football saying they did the same thing about calling a school that said recruit or agent had said was promising a certain amount of money and basically caught them in a lie. The coaching community is tight and I also remember him saying they have reached out to many others as well as schools reaching out to them to fact check recruit but more importantly agents. One thing is for sure pretty much all schools stick together dealing with shaky agents. It was interesting listening to coach Barrett talking about Waliczko coming in and going out to watch her live thinking could she come to Iowa right now because of her skill set as well as work ethic.

So schools are calling each other asking how much they are paying. Does this bring up the question of price fixing?
I don't think so, any more than a C Store looking across the street at their competitors gas price. Price fixing is when you agree to a favorable price to "fix" the market. With all the competition in BB, that would be impossible.

Agents. A lot of scum out there.

1. Price fixing is when schools collaborate together to bring down the asking price of a school.
2. A coach verifying what another school has offered would not be considered price fixing - its verifying what another offer is. Now the question is whether the other school would give a factual answer or not.

Agent is simply a euphemism for sales person. They see their job as bringing in the highest price and to do that by making their product look like it is better and in higher demand than it really is.

I'm sure coaches talk to each other all the time. Likely in this case Barrett was told something that sounded weird from the recruit/agent so she looked into it. I'm sure on the flip side, if a recruit was using false prices from Barrett/Iowa, Barrett would want to know.

I also assume they are lying about lying.

school A really wants a player. school B calls school A and asks them how much they are offering the player. School A lies to school B by saying a small number. School B then lowers their offer to the player and School A gets the player for the real amount. Which was a little more than they were saying.

it’s what I would do.

I kind of wondered about that as well, if the schools are being truthful when she calls. Its like the NFL draft when a team puts it out there who they're going to take, and then they take someone totally different....

...and your trust level would go to zero. In a business where job changes happen frequently lying to multiple schools today is going to give you a reputation that is going to only hurt you in the future.

Sports agents are near the top of the list of people who generally need to be punched in the face.

Why?

Without the agents it would be much worse.

(Like any profession there are going to be bad ones...most are going to be acting in the best interest of their clients)
