Make Kelli Zinn the GM !

In all seriousness - this is a 95 -100 loss team and people need to stop deluding themselves !

The entire team sucks - hitting - defensively / pitching.

There is not one strength to hold onto !

And Soto is going to opt out as well after his 5th year !

The only potential bright spot … I told my father when (ok if) the Mets win the World Series it will come with a miracle scenario like the Red Sox being down 3-0 to Yankees
Maybe losing 16 straight will be the insurmountable mountain the Mets climb to finally win another WS

The season the Mets win the World Series will not be a 102-60 regular season followed by a 11-3 postseason. Mets fans will earn every damn second of it

So what will be done ??

Trade what you can and hit reset ??

Trade for Skubal ?
Make a wild Trout/Trout-like trade and eat $$ to save on prospects ?

Or nothing because it’s early 💩💩💩

Rutgers
Mets
Dolphins
Rangers

Graduated Rutgers in ‘88 so can’t stop rooting for them. My only hope maybe Dolphins can do something with their first 2 #1 picks. There are people in the world just don’t watch sports. Could never understand it………until now🤬

I have 8 years on you and try being a fan of the following:

RU sports
NY Mets
NY Jets

There are many reasons I love music, play the guitar and read books (I’m retired) but the above plays a role.

Can’t believe I’m already looking forward to Rutgers football and basketball
Well basketball portal recruiting appears to be on the upswing lately, so I’m with you on that. I also like the offseason changes/portal signings in football too.

22 games into the season, and the Mets are already 7.5 games out of first...WTF.
Way to go, Stearns. Everything you've touched as the head man for the Mets has turned into sh*t or close to it.
Take a bow.

Your emojis to the contrary, your final option is the correct one. And the only one that makes any sense at all.

We are what - 7.5 games out with 140 to go? And y'all are ready to raise the white flag? That's crazy. But on the other hand, doubling down on guys like Skubal and Trout in April, when the price is at its highest, is equally crazy.

IMHO, The ONLY rational response is to stay the course until July, and then make the buy/sell/hold decisions on the basis on some level of meaningful information.

What is there about this team that leads you to believe that they can turn things around?

A simple concept called reversion to the mean.

I am by no means certain that they can turn it around. But I am not willing to burn it down with 85% of the season left to play.

In my support group for caregivers someone said control things you can control. Problem was I thought watching sports was a diversion. Now I need a diversion from my diversion😎

They have inadequate pitching, defense and hitting. I don't see how they turn it around.

This is not a 51 win team which is their current pace. Something really makes no sense though that the offense would be this bad across the board even without Soto.

I just saw Diaz blew another game as well to the Rockies. 3 ER and has a 10.5 ERA and his stuff is really down across the board. Baseball is a crazy game.

Appreciate that your views are similar on this!

Benge was on fire in Spring Training. Totally deserved to start. That said send him down and get his confidence back. Same could be said for many veterans on the team. Too bad they are out of options😎

Diaz didn't blow a save like I said earlier. He just made it worse but regardless his stuff is down big time and he's had a brutal April like the Mets.

They have inadequate pitching, defense and hitting. I don't see how they turn it around.
In other words, they have inadequate everything. Let's assess:

PITCHING: Can we agree that we have three starters (McLean. Holmes, Peralta) who are at minimum adequate? The other three, maybe not so much. BUT, pitching is the area where we have the most prospects who are MLB ready, or almost ready. I think we'll be OK. We know Cohen will eat salary if he has to.

HITTING: Soto will return. His absence doesn't explain all of it, but it does explain some. As far as the rest of it, here are the OPS numbers of those Mets with at least 50 plate appearances. Today's results not included
  • Alvarez .894
  • Robert .751
  • Vientos .664
  • Lindor .627
  • Semien .578
  • Bichette .561
  • Polanco .532
  • Baty .467
  • Benge .455
  • TEAM .632
  • LEAGUE AVERAGE .705
So, if you expect the above results from 22 games to carry forward to the next 140, then I agree with you that the hitting is inadequate. But I don't believe that, I don't think you do either.

DEFENSE: Here I do think that Stearns overpromised and underdelivered. That said, Robert and Semien clearly represent defensive upgrades at two positions. And if Benge sticks around, that's three.

So that's how they should turn it around - by reverting to the performance levels suggested by the back of their baseball cards.

I am usually a big believer that most baseball players that are in their prime, will pretty much be the back of their baseball cards. But, this Met's team throws that into a question mark. Bichette is a proven clutch hitter. But, throwing him into a new position and this is his first time being a "star" in New York, we don't know how that may change that all up. Semein, he is past his prime and it shows. Polanco- same as Bichette and he has also been hurt. Benge is a mess. Baty- here is a kid that started to really play well when he had a position - #B and he knew he was playing every day. That is all screwed up now. Lindor has the look of WTF did this guy do to the team. Sosa is hurt. We can't field at 1B, 3B, LF, RF

Starting pitchers - we have an Ace and 2 pretty solid guys in Peralta and Holmes...the rest are a mess. Our BP sucks.
Manager has sucked.

But heck- we are all good until July.

Cohen seems to really only care that he has his casino and stearns is lost being the man that has to build this in NY.

I threw up a little.

Just because someone keeps repeating the same nonsense doesn't make it true.
yep- same nonsense has been repeated for 11 games in a row...hard to believe any fan or fans do not believe in the great Mr. Stearns. Who the f cares if he has fixed our minor leagues- let's put him in charge of development and keep him away from the real team.
But sure- maybe we all just need to wait until July

I'm talking about you keep saying Cohen only cares about a casino. Everything he's done for the franchise since he bought the team is in complete opposite of that.

Yes baseball is a long season. The start has been horrific there's no sugar coating the fact that things need to change and quickly.

It is because he acted completely different as an owner before the casino then he has after.

Maybe it is just growth on his part as owner and recognizing that he really should trust those he hired to do their job. But, the timing seems t coincide with getting the approval.

If it is the former- good for him and now he has to look hard at who he is trusting to run it.
