You do realize that this season 40% of all FGAs were 3PTs - which blew away previous records. The trends related to 3PTs are staggering. Curious what game you’ve been watching.
Can ask for an example of the "beautiful game" you miss?
I'm hoping you arent going to say a big guy going iso and dribbling backwards one on one.
With no spacing and low post wrestling matches. Critics used to complain that there wasn't enough scoring and almost nobody could shoot. Now they're complaining that good/great shooters are ruining the game by taking 3s provided by real spacing and ball movement. No pleasing some people.
Ball movement and screening 30 feet from the basket. If I were commissioner for a day make the 3 point shot worth 2.5 OR no 3 pointers for the 1st 8 minutes of each quarter.
Why?
You’re version of good basketball and what good basketball actually is are two different things
this is a similar argument they probably had in football in the 1950s when they invented the forward pass and people who liked 3 yards and a cloud of dust were outraged … should we have not allowed change then?
The biggest change that I have experienced is when they added the shot clock. It used to be that watching Princeton or North Carolina was about as much fun as going to the dentist to get a tooth pulled. It was not unusual for those teams to dribble and pass the ball around 4 to 5 minutes each possession before taking a shot. Adding the 3 point shot took a while to really have an impact probably because there were not so many players that good at taking them. Now it’s a skill almost everyone is expected to have.
No doubt it is opinion.
What is a fact is for me my primary sport to watch i have stopped watching completely. I still watch baseball and have replaced basketball with hockey. i do miss talking hoops on this message board!

Limiting or changing the 3pt line is an action towards a goal.
Not the goal itself.
Why do you want to change the 3pt line?
To achieve what?
We had 4 "recruited top 8" rotation pieces last year (Dortch, Grant, Davis and Ogbole).
None were "legit".
All 4 are now gone or dropped out of the top 8 - to thunderous applause.
Why stop at 2 legit rotation pieces in each class?
Expect 3 or 4.
This entire thread and idea relies upon "If Pike could just....." meanwhile he hasn't done it in 6 years.
But sure, he may go from zero legit recruits to 2 every year.

i totally get your poont ; but the dynamic is “hopefully changing” on our ability to have competitive funding to recruit
if it is ….we SHOULD expect out of Pike or any coach …

Basketball shots diversified by location with the goal of getting the closest shots. Great passing leading to non 3 point shots. Some physical play and low post moves. Defense being played over the entire court. Screening away. Not moving screens.
