It has, but has it gone any different than most of us expected?
This offseason has went EXACTLY the way most thought it would. Especially with Pope not hiring a GM, and NOT filling his last assistant position before the portal season. EXACTLY.
If Pope drops the ball on either Freeman or Stokes he may have a long off season. He needs both in a bad way to keep his gig alive imo.
It is way too early to call it a disaster, so many unknown variables remaining. Lets revisit this post in 2 weeks and then we can have a real educated conversation on how it went. At this point it could easily go either way still.
It ain’t over yet. Recruiting runs through the summer and there are still really big fish available …like Stokes and Momcilovic …that could instantly change everything.

Originally entered the portal with a "do not contact tag" and also entered the draft. Most projections have him being picked around 23-26. Early news was if not the draft it would be Duke. No idea where any of that stands now.
It really has. It has brought out some of the least creative and most obvious trolls of all time. This place use to draw some of the finest trolls anywhere. Now, just anybody can bring their lack of game and be Anon####.

We clearly were going to sign some players. They've got some talent.

This could obviously change, but at the moment, I'd say we're looking like a middle of the pack SEC team. Again.

It takes time, you can't say something is a disaster not even midway into it. You can say it has been disappointing sure but we are in the mix for a lot of players and landed our 2 main guard targets. That is not a disaster, if it is then the original expectations were unrealistic. What I said before and I'm saying now is wait and see who wet get before we say its a disaster. It could be an amazing off season still, a meh average type one or possibly a disaster but disaster is the least likely.
Wilkins was definitely our original SG target and primary option to get, Diallo was as well and sure you can make the argument he was option 1/2 with Wright but there is a reason the staff had him visit first. The Whiff narrative is so out of control, but people believe what the media sells them over reality everyday.

If a #40 something guy is your top target then it’s an entirely different set of problems for Pope.
Then why was the great Nate Oats trying to get him? Rankings are bs anyways. They have Flory has the #1 ranked player. Be real.
If you don't see the potential in Wilkins and you really think he's the 40th best player in the portal then I don't know what to tell you. Wilkins is gonna be a star. You'll see.
Good first year, bad second year. Pretty small sample size. I say we let this offseason play out and make final decision next year.
Don’t focus on the portal season, national championships are not won in early summer. How about when Gonzaga beat us by 35 and most of the team quit trying, that was fun !
We are no longer competitive with any of the elite programs in any metric imaginable. We have as much money to spend as any program in the country, and we still don’t have an assistant coach replacement or a full starting five. I wanted Pope to succeed as much as anyone, but we are really really close to basketball season being an afterthought at Kentucky.

I’m not giving up, yet. But Pope is gonna have to finish extremely strong. I’m just not sure he has it in him. Realistically I don’t believe he does.
