I followed Matt and Scottie on Thursday. Matt played well and Scottie left a few strokes on the course. Harbour Town is unique, as all types of players can win, bombers or technicians , stars or unknowns. The Par 3s may be the best collection in tournament golf. The 18th iconic lighthouse hole was softened years ago when the tee was moved towards Caliboque Sound, it used to be near the 17th green requiring a tee shot parallel to to the OB on the right. The hole now is only defended by the wind

I have played the course numerous times courtesy of a good friend who had a house near the 10th tee and the Harbor Town clubhouse. The course generally favors good iron players. Luke Donald always did well there. The 4 iron Matt hit on the first playoff hole was one of the best shots I've ever seen, and the par 3's are all difficult and require excellent iron play.
