Why are we all sad? We have our Furman guy. The one that this board says is a 'fact' will go to the NBA. Just moves on the court in a way that you know he is great. Just needs to put on a few pounds and he'll be John Wall.

Shame on Pope for not recruiting this kid. We need a shooting guard besides Wilkins. Why do all of these guys want to go to Tenn? Money speaks loudly but it’s Tenn for crying out loud.

It’s safe to say. If UK even wants to finish top 4 in the conference, Pope has a TON of work to do. I’m not so sure our roster will be good enough even if he lands all the guys left that he is targeting.
Means they aren’t getting Juke and not sure why anyone is sad, he wasn’t even a target of ours. We went after others Hill Jr was never coming here nor did we try to get him. Not sure what the big deal is, but let’s just keep complaining to complain.
The Furman guy had a great campaign as a freshman and looked great even against the runner-ups. JJ has no BBIQ or is simply very selfish
I agree. Even if we get who we think we might, that roster has holes and will be missing pieces. It's not a top roster. More akin to last year results imo.
Bill Self is going to have to lock Leroy Blyden Jr up and not let him leave Lawrence. Has to get a guard on the board as continues to pitch Stokes

My guess is probably not too different from Jasper.
Nobody knows -- it's a big jump from 15 seed level to the SEC. It's day in and day out in the SEC, not just show up for 2 games against big opponents.
Maybe he is as great as some of you are saying -- overwhelming odds are he isn't.

I totally agree. And this is my biggest concern -- I can totally see another R32/ S16, mid-SEC type finish, and the narrative would be how Pope is succeeding and has earned another year.

I don’t care where he finishes just as long as injuries can’t be an excuse. That’s all I’ve heard, but it’s fact that even without injuries, we weren’t winning the SEC or going to the final four with either of his past two teams. We weren’t beating Florida or Alabama either year, and Auburn was gonna cook us last year either way. Pope just simply isn’t putting together good enough teams.

Wilkins is a heck of a lot better right now than JJ showed us. He damn near beat UConn by himself in the tourney. How does JJ even factor into this discussion?
Then why the #41 portal ranking? Surely a guy as such you described would be higher ranked than Shelstad, Hill, Lewis? Mingo's brother? Some guy named Chance Westry?

Transfer portal rankings are terrible, man.
Watch him yourself and make up your own mind. He is scary talented. He has some rawness but the potential is unreal.
That’s why it isn’t a big deal, it was Hill or Juke. Tennessee got the worst of the two by far, it’s a win for us. They’ve been the favorite for Juke for a few days and now they have Hill that tells me Jukes going elsewhere.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that. But you've also used these same terrible rankings to justify Pope being a 'B+' recruiter.
I'll add that for Freeman, if we get him, I would consider that a big recruiting win. Just hope his injuries don't flare up (LOL).

The Furman guy averaged 18 for a freshmen, um where did the two starting guards for last years florida team come from? Jasper johnson is physically weak, if he wasn't he wouldn't turn the ball over everytime he came in a game. Zoom has a well rounded game with assists and rebounding. We are going to add more Probably 4 to 5 more players at least.

Don’t wait 7 months. Watch Wilkins vs Bama, UConn and High Point today. You will be impressed. He’s got good size but explosive, has a quick release jumper, has extremely deep range, makes snappy decisions with the ball, can put defenders on a string, ultra confident player, silky smooth midrange. I expect he will be our go-to scorer next year.
did you even watch Jasper play? skinny was only part of the problem. Lack of defense, worse guard I’ve ever seen at handling the ball and the can’t go 30 seconds without jacking a shot were what you would have seen.
If he goes to the sweet 16 he will deserve more years. Nobody fires a coach going to the sweet 16
Everybody keeps saying "How will he do in the SEC" but the SEC has tons of mid-major players now. Many of the top guys in the portal are from smaller schools, and the bigger schools are all going after them. It doesn't logically make sense to keep saying "How will he do in the SEC." This thread is literally about Tennessee landing a guy from VCU...
