I hope things have changed since then but that’s how we lost Chief when he moved on to Louisville. Dickie wouldn’t let Coach Fox even get respectfully close what L’ville offered him.

You know you kind of want some of the assts to get a HC job-for them. And some have left-at least one has come back.
But for decades Forbes made whatever he made-and now he must feel realtively rich. He ain't going anywhere.
I liked the Anson Dorrance story-was pinned for a long time after he retired on the Soccer thread. Basically his expense budget Stanford offered was bigger than any salary he had at UNC . Housing costs so bad out there-they were going to buy him a house

Well his mom lived in NC somewhere and when he told her he was going to move to California, she said "well never call me again"
So he did not

And Forbes is from Sanford. A short drive from Chapel Hill with a lot of family and close friends. It’s not always about the money. As long as he’s paid top third of ACC average, seems like retaining him won’t be super stressful. I do hope we pay him what he’s worth.

Selling Bosh out a bit more often will help.

Baddour was a nice man, loved Carolina, wanted to do the right things and a hard worker but he had no vision at all especially when it comes to baseball. I remember an interview when we were hosting lesser Carolina in the supers in the old Bosh and the place was packed with folks sitting on the grass and he asked in an interview why we needed to change anything. He just couldn’t see it.

Baddour had little vision for anything but the status quo- really nice guy who was very entrenched with the “ in crowd”

How does the SEC finance and underwrite their sports teams?

He was a cost accountant. And Dean egoistically and myopically installed him as AD.

Before his extension, he wasn’t top ten. Not sure where he is now.

I know comparison between sports is sort of pointless, but this staff had this team SO well prepared and ready to execute at a high level compared to the other men’s sports programs. It’s almost night and day. And when you factor in relative allocation of resources….come on

Yet, baseball loses a lot of money every year. We basically get nothing from televised games and attendance doesn't begin to pay expenses.

Wonder how many on this thread have been around since the beginning of his tenure… there was a big cry from a good portion of this fanbase that wanted him gone!

winning makes everyone feel good… but he’s built this program back up from the small dip it endured - his way. And it’s the right way with the right culture. It’s getting it done against the money of the SEC without their resources. Outside of winning the natty - which takes a lot of luck AND being a good team, you could argue we’ve been one of the best 3 programs in the country in the last 20 years!

You never know with the money that can be thrown around, but I really don’t see him going anywhere at this point. Hoping that window has closed. The issue will be Wierz and Gaines. He can’t keep them. They’re too good. And he wants them to be head coaches…

Close. But I recall that Coach Williams left in response to the "siren song" of David Perno, who promised him the status of "Head Coach in Waiting" at UGa. That was "THE thing" at the time. Williams helped turn the Bulldogs around in 2006, and save Perno's job, only to learn that Perno had no intention of keeping his promise. Perno was an unabashed skunk, who later became the east coast's leading "bat roller."

After that successful year is when Williams moved on to Louisville--still as a pitching coach. And he had a profound effect on Dan McDonnell's team. The two of them built the Cards into a true national power.

I agree in general. But I'm not sure that he is the villain in Coach Williams' case.

This is what I remember also. Williams got a rusty knife in the back from that loser.

Speaking of that. Bought tix to Saturday game. Online showed very very few available tix. Then the stadium was only 70% full. Very confused by that. Don’t know if it was technically sold out or not. Maybe everyone was standing in the concourse for shade…

He ran one of the top athletic programs in the country for over a decade.

At worst case Top 3 athletic Program in the county for over a decade.
And he ran the most important one that took 10 painstaking years to build straight into the ground IN TWO YEARS (he had help) from number 6 to number 106 and that legacy still haunts us today.
