Problem is he will end up having to start some of these guys due to not being able to get better players, the focus should be the top 25-50 portal players, he needs three starter quality players and three solid players such as McBride. To me, the latter should be after you’ve secured the priority players.
You are probably right. I'm so apathetic to Pope and UK basketball at present.
You do realize that players can get substantially better from year to year, right? This guy looks like he’s improving greatly.
And the portal rankings don’t necessarily mean anything.

No, I never realized that, playing in the SEC is world’s apart from what he’s accustomed to, look at his games breakdown on ESPN, several games he completely disappeared against the better teams in his own conference.

Hard not to be discouraged when we had 14 losses and we are still grasping at straws on how to replace Oweh..so hard to imagine a better season upcoming. That 18ppg we are losing isn't going to just magically appear.
Not to mention all the other guys who left too.
This dude looks like an Almonor type. Which is great. But we need some upgrades
I have a feeling players won’t commit to UK because of players on roster now, thinking they won’t play over guys currently on roster... Hawthorne could transfer out also if we get a really good player transfer in, same for Kam for that matter. Pope has never had to do this before…last year he could just throw money at them but that isn’t there this season
Your twisted logic assumes ONLY lower ranked players will get better.
It also throws itself out the window assuming Pope has the coaching savvy to make a player better.
And then you dismiss it entirely saying it doesn’t mean anything.

This is a depth piece just like Almonor 2 years ago. It amazes me the inability of people on here to read a situation. We land our targets and Hawthorne is gone so you need roster fillers and depth pieces like this. The same people praise Kelsey and little brother for getting smarter Knox but laugh at us for looking at this guy when he is better than Knox. This would be a nice 9-10 man.
The difference being they have two top-17 players in the portal, and the #57 player in Knox, we have one, #26 and now looking at the #201 ranked player, a tad bit of difference.

u think this guy is better than Karter Knox? I seriously doubt that. Not when he is healthy.
While I agree we need top flight players, It doesn't always work that way. If he can sign a quality player he should do it. You can't choose who enters the portal at what time.
At this point, portal walk ons are gonna visit and decide not to commit to this staff and just stay a walk on somewhere else.

He’s a good solid player in a larger rotation and hopefully that’s how this plays out, he’s SF height playing as a PF.
#1,328 in BPR last season. About 300 spots higher than Almonor at FDU but this seems like a reach for a school named Kentucky.
So are you aying we should have kept BG? Is he going to be substantially better next year?
How do you know he is better than Knox? Because Kentucky is looking at him and Knox signed with Louisville. Next week when he commits to Centre College you will be saying he is trash. The spin cycle is what amazes me.

You need kids like this as well. Florida and UConn won titles bringing in guys who weren't top tier recruits
The Pope thing isn’t happening fellas. Ceiling is a decent team at this point.
Pope has no sense of desperation. He needs final 4 to save his job - the goalposts aren’t moving - and yet he’s acting like this is a long term rebuild.
So obvious he won’t be here after next season. Shameful that we delayed the inevitable and wasted another year of UK basketball.

That’s why Pope should have signed a couple of top flight freshman phenoms, and recruited and retain better players that fit the mold from last season, because there is no guarantee who is transferring and who isn’t… And that doesn’t take into consideration that all the top coaches are going after the same handful of impact players, all of which have resumes and solid reputations, whereas Pope has neither!

Almanor with some ferocity. Shoots 40% from deep and moves like a locomotive. Surprised hes ranked so low. Definitely a good depth piece.
