STORY - men's wrestling adds Oklahoma transfer Carter Schubert at critical weight class

Here's my story on today's transfer portal addition for the Hawkeyes - Carter Schubert:

Oklahoma transfer Carter Schubert to fill Iowa's glaring hole at 165 - On3

A returning bloodround finisher at 174lbs, Schubert will drop down to 165 to (presumably) succeed Mikey Caliendo in the Iowa lineup.

He defeated three different All-Americans during his 22-8 season for the Sooners, earning the #12 seed at NCAAs.

He's certainly an upgrade over what Iowa had at 165 - which was essentially nothing proven/promising entering this offseason.

As for his potential, we'll have to wait and see how he adapts to 165. He certainly wasn't a point-scoring dynamo up at 174 last season, but he did pick up several wins over All-Americans.

He was also probably the best 165-pound option in the portal, so I think this was about the best Iowa could've done given the circumstances.
