I just dont trust those numbers. There is a site for the team in upstate that said they were upping their NIL to 10 million, and excited that they are now in the top 30 or so.

Why would they supposedly be excited about spending less than us, and expecting results?
i mean that’s what’s being reported numbers wise so until I hear differently that’s the number I’m going with and it’s the one that makes the most sense

I used to only look at our changes and assume that it would give us "x" improvement. But each of our opponents is also making strides. Teams we beat think they've closed the gap with us as much as we think we're closing the gap on others.

Here's the schedule. I think the biggest difference is that we only have 2 patsies now.

I can easily see 5-1 after the UF game. That would create unreal enthusiasm. Arkansas is another likely win that would get to 6 wins.

Oh, I dont disagree with that, its just that the numbers being thrown around are never backed up. But its always that way with NIL.

We could. UF and UK have new coaches, so I cant pencil them in. Lose 1 of those and Arky looks like the 5th win.

Butcher again, who knows who got the better portal players until at least a couple weeks into the season.

I don't see any way to not win 6 games next season in football. Quite a few here feel like a new OL coach and a new OC are going to be worth at least 3 additional wins over last season.

I think a more troubling thought is; what if football goes 6-6, goes to a crap bowl and wins? Is 7-6 and a win over a mid major in a cold weather bowl game enough to keep Beamer? I'm afraid it is. Such a record would not be enough to excite any recruits or the fans but Beamer would be back in 2027.

I think it would be worse to face a future of perpetual 5 to 8 win seasons than the unknown with a new coach.
The certainty of misery is far better than the misery of uncertainty ?

IMHO I see 7 losses, 1 tossup, 4 certain wins.

I wish people would get comfortable with the idea that we are wasting next season in order to reduce Paris' buyout.
I agree with you 100%, we have been horrible in men's basketball for decades, I doubt one more season of it will matter much.

Bleak. True. But bleak.

Here's a hypothetical twist: football turns in another dismal season. I don't think he survives another sub-6-win season. If Donati is forced to part ways with Beamer, that likely buys Lamont another season, no matter how basketball does.

I guess a question is, how bad can football be WITHOUT Donati being forced to let Beamer go b/c he knows he wants to keep financial flexibility to fire Paris?
I think we are going to be much improved because we finally ditched the worst offensive line coach in the country. Our OL play should be considerably improved.

If money is the only reason to come to Carolina, and it is, why would any decent player come?
A payday on a lousy basketball team can't be fun for a college kid with potential.
I don't know about that, players can come here, get paid well without any expectations whatsoever, sounds like a great situation. Perhaps we can buy some players from Lenoir Rhyne or Gardner Webb, lol.

i think we are going to be much better than many think, Donati/Beamer did an outstanding job with the hires on the offensive staff.

Good point. Probably a bigger impact than losing one patsy. But both big impacts, imo.

The only news I see about Gamecocks basketball is about Dawn getting portal commits.

What's Lamont doing?

I’m not comfortable with the idea that we are spending 10-12 million on a roster to waste a season and I will never get comfortable with that.
Yes, we should not be comfortable with that, but understanding why may allow for a certain level of tolerance. Tolerance, not endorsement.

The 3 commits we have are pretty good, but we need more. Lost out on the guy 7'2" center from SMU, Cruz Davis and the big forward from Iowa. Still in it on a few others.

This exactly what our future is going to be. 5-7 wins a season is what we have averaged since the beginning of time. We do not ever recruit ever land a top 15 recruiting class out of high school or in the portal. Recruiting in the 9-12 ranking every year in the SEC is good for a 5-7 wins each year, with 8-9 once or twice a decade. Expecting anything more is hoping against hope.

5-1 is a possibility, but easily ? No, I don't see it as easily.
We are a 4-8 squad, 2 of those wins came against Coastal and SC St, the other 2 against a bad VaTech team, and a bad UK team.
We are still going to have a lot of issues, and there is the potential to improve on those, but a tall order to have them eliminated.

Yes, we have made changes to our staff, but other schools have as well. No one is standing still.

Incomplete peace. I agree with your take. Just have to endure next MBB season untril the school can afford to let Paris go.

Now watch MBB have a great season next year and irritate everyone. Heh heh heh.

The "No one is standing still" part is lost on a lot of gamecock fans. They think all things remain equal outside of Columbia.

I saw some of the UGA Spring game. Kirby definitely isn't standing still. They have about 6 tight ends that would start and be stars anywhere in the country. Some of them are lining up as WRs because of their speed.

In good news, everything I have read about Clemson's Spring has been very downbeat. It doesn't sound like they are loaded. The Dabo days in Clemson may be numbered.
