Isn't Wisconsin the program that hasn't beaten Iowa since the First Civil War? I believe Iowa has won 32 in a row over the Badgers, so that would be a great landing spot for anyone.
With Addies freshman year, this was probably her situation:

Best of luck to her. I hope all goes well for her.
Agree. This is already working out better for Iowa. We got a huge upgrade at her position, and if she ( or her family) weren't happy with the situation no reason to stick around. When over half the players in the country are in the portal it makes it pretty easy for a school like us to go grab a better player. Personally I think she made a mistake and would have been better off trying to better herself but she obviously found a soft landing spot at a bottom feeder looking for players. And I'm assuming they were probably desperate to throw away their money.

I am a believer that a significant portion of portal recruiting gets done through back channels, well before the portal opens. Given the previous relationship between Dani Carnegie and LaSondra Barrett (and Chit-Chat Wright), I would suspect that Jan might have had an inkling that we had a strong chance to land Carnegie by the time she had her post-season meetings with players. So, Addie likely walked into her meeting expecting her compensation to stay about the same, while pushing for a clearer path to a starting role or at least increased minutes. Instead, she’s told there are no guarantees on a starting spot, her pay may actually decrease, and the staff plans to aggressively target her position in the portal. It makes it easier to see why she made the decision she did.

Still, it's hard to not see Addie's move as a mistake. At Iowa, she could have continued to play a key role off the bench, likely for two more years, with an opportunity to step onto the floor her senior year as a starter and key team leader. Something of a Taylor McCabe career trajectory (hopefully without the senior year injury). Probably not the career she visualized, but still a very successful career, in a strong program, with great fans. Instead, she heads to Wisconsin, where she probably plays the role of a big fish in a small pond and -- best case scenario -- she's back in the portal a year from now. Best of luck to her in finding a better situation than she had at Iowa.

I would put money on her transferring again next year. She found a school she will start at and probably play a ton. She will use Wisconson to get her reputation back and schools desperate will throw money at her when she is in the portal next year. Wisconsin sucks and she will put up decent numbers.
Why disparage a player when Iowa has benefited from Chit Chat who transferred after her frosh year to Iowa? Not to mention this years transfers.

Rather than hypocrisy, how about better for Iowa better for Addie? Simple as that.

I actually think Deal will turn out to be pretty good. Not an Alll American but a good player. I wish she had stayed. But do you honestly feel like she will finish out her career at Wisconsin or using it as a stepping stone for a bigger payday next year?

It always depends on the individual situation. She went to Wisconsin because she was assured of more playing time, albeit in a much weaker program. If the program improves, she might stay. If she improves but the program stays stagnant she'll more likely leave in search of a higher profile.

What in that post is was “disparaging”? Everything looked spot on to me

I just dont see Wisconsin improving in one season. Lots of Big Ten teams look like they are improving but IMHO Wisconsin won't even sniff the NCAA tournament.

Kinda like hundreds of other players this year, it just blows my mind with the fixation of this board on Addie Deal wanting more, then turn around and celebrate 2 incoming multiple transfer athletes without a second thought!

Yeah. I think the Emely situation was a lot worse. There's a group of people on this board that are way more interested in who wasn't/isn't playing or not good enough and are transferring out, than they are in the players who are much better and are sticking with the team. It's a weird dynamic. Personally I'm fine with them leaving and think the team will be improved next year, particularly in the backcourt.

You never know. A year of experience and a bunch of portal adds can make a big difference. The Michigan men won a national championship with all new players.

So let’s think about this. Who of the wbb coaches of the top 16/32 teams would guarantee to start and guarantee playing minutes? Maybe I am nieve but I don’t see that. Same thing with the mbb basketball coaches. Would Ferentz do it?

I truly think most top level coaches will get the better players based on the system they run, any history that shows success, ability for a player to develop to their fullest potential. Unfortunately with nil and ability to transfer, players have an escape route if they/patents/agents think the “star” is not be treated fairly. As Mike tyson would say, everyone has a plan until they hit. In our world today where everyone gets a trophy and “now mentality”, people have forgotten that talent, hard work, perseverance, commitment as well as trust and respect for the process pay bigger dividends in the longer run!!!

Just my 2 cents!

So it doesn't have to be a statement from a coach guaranteeing a starting position. Conversations still take place. Addie and her reps know who's on the roster at Wisconsin and I'm sure the coaches told her which positions they'd still be looking to add through the portal if she joined them. Based on that information I'm sure they're assuming more minutes than she was looking at with Iowa where she was the number 3 guard going into next year and was likely told that they were looking to recruit the guard position heavily when the portal opened up. I also wouldn't be surprised if they told her they'd be cutting her NIL to help fund that.

My reference about guaranteeing starting postion and minutes was a reference to prior comments made about the Deal situation and her handlers. If that was the expectation on their behalf, then that is a false or bad assumption. I am "old school" and strongly believe in merit based system and you get what you earn.

Her NIL for year 1 was based on "expectations" from HS rankings. Year 2 is based on market supply/demand and actual performance. Based on her performance, her NIL should have gotten cut. It was at this point of the process where my prior point should have taken hold. If she believed in her ability, then talent, hard work, perseverance, commitment as well as trust and respect for the process pay bigger dividends in the longer run!! Not the "trophy now" mentality.

I agree with everything you said right up until the end. You can argue that she should have stuck it out, but at Iowa she ended up being surrounded by more effective players who would likely limit her minutes on the floor going forward, and the staff also likely told her they were looking to upgrade her position through the portal. At that point she has a decision to make. She was a star player in high school but she's not a star player today. She has a chance to be a good player, but at Iowa she was surrounded by better players who would likely keep her on the bench. That's not the situation at Wisconsin. Although she's more talented, she left Iowa for pretty much the same reasons that Teagan, Kennise, and Callie left. She just wasn't good enough for starter minutes or the money that goes with it. I don't blame any of them for leaving.

I agree with what you are saying. I don't blame any of them for leaving. My only distinction with Addie compared to the other three is that she came in with some lofty expecatations. 1st year reesults did not align with those expectations. If she believed in her abilities for the reasons I cited earlier, she could have stuck around and proved her capability.

BTW -- I really appreciate the "respectful" discussion versus other threads I have read!!!

I think the situation looks different if she were already closer to what the staff thought they were getting to begin with and CCW and Stremlow weren't sophomores this year along with Journey being a freshman. There was a reasonably high likelihood that she'd be coming off the bench the next 2 years.

Her quote to Jan, and I can't remember if someone else posted this or not, was "I didn't come here to be a role player." I guess we will she what she is at Wisconsin, because at Iowa she felt entitled to get minutes over others who were better than she is.

I haven't heard this from a reliable source so I'd take it with a grain of salt. At the same time, what 5 star recruits are going anywhere expecting to be a role player? They've been told they're elite and the best of the best for years.

IMO I think she wanted to go to a place where should could showcase what she believes are next level talents. Of course playing at Iowa in front of large crowds would be loads of fun. But I think she has bigger plans for her own career. We will see.
