Not sure of your thought process here, but he is passing it to a wide open teammate when his team needs a bucket to tie the game or take the lead with just seconds remaining in the game.

Why in the world would he immediately try and call a time out after passing it in that situation?!

First time I saw the slomo replay I kind of thought the same as the OP. But seeing it again I realized he was just gesturing for a shot.

I think he was signaling him to shoot. Regardless he could have called a timeout himself

I initially thought that too that night, but then when looking closer it was a shooting kind of motion.
