You are contradicting yourself here.. raw with potential more describes Herrera then it does Endene.. bc Endene actually proved he can beat the top guys last year at Iowa. Don’t look into his HS results.. put more weight on most recent results, which was Endene was ranked as high as #4 and was gone from Iowa from apparent NIL disputes.. don’t put down Little Rock they been outperforming RU at nationals lol…. And the reasons you would not be Surprised if Endene AA when all is said and done is bc you saw the results he had last year beating top guys… so I’m super confused why you apply “raw w potential is not who you would want in a B10 lineup” on Endene but you don’t say the same of Herrera… Puzzling…
Herrera NQ as true freshman. He’s not raw IMO. Knows how to wrestle. not saying HS matters but he was No. 63 recruit Flo / No. 35 MatScouts … No. 9 HWT Flo / No. 11 hwt MatScouts … three-time state champion (CA / IA) … never lost a high school match. I really like the pick up (hope this post ages well)

Endene is not a good technical wrestler. Just a physical beast with an unconventional style. Upset Merrill in November 4-3 but if they wrestled 5 more times I would put every dollar on Merrill to win.

If Endene was all that Brands would have kept him (not buying the drama BS). And Little Rock is usually Plan D for transfers. Nobody picks Little Rock unless it’s their best option.

I mean I hope your post ages well too.. eh saying “if Endene was all that Brands would have kept him.” Is really no diff at all from saying “If Herrera was all that ISU would have kept him.”

Maybe Merrill would win the rematch, who knows. Endene also had a win over #4 at the time Stout.

Being ranked 9th/11th in your weight class outa hs isn’t bad.. but we got a 14th ranked HWT recruit no one is even talking about.. I agree w ya, recent results trumps hs resume.. and while Herrera was a NQ.. it was through an auto bid and went 0-2… last year he went 4-3 before Yonger came back. I see the potential but let’s just see how he fares in B10 grind first… maybe he will have a better season next year then Endene, maybe he won’t; we will see… I was just surprised at how many people seemed so confident in that happening is all.

On a side note, some reason when you said “he’s just a physical beast”, it just reminded me of Brock Lesnar.. not a stellar hs career but then discovered by Minn.

And when reading Herrera’s stats randomly thought of Connor O’Neil. #56 class recruit and #4 170.. NQ as a freshman 1-2(w/ a pin).

No doubt Endene is a physical/athletic freak. His Little Rock pic looks like he’s on roids (not suggesting he is) and he’s definitely old. Whatever, I’ll take Herrera regardless of where either finishes next year.

Don’t know what to make of Bajoras but Zalota beat him twice in February. Not sure if it was log-jam, injury, ?, but Palian who was committed to Calpoly (may be headed to Pitt now) took over the starting spot.

What a bust he was. Top 5 RU wrestling busts 1) Aragona 2) Camp 3) Mason 4) Janzer 5) Glasgow
Number 1 and 5, absolutely. I am kind of surprised nobody said Peterson in this discussion. I expected multiple AA's out of him after seeing him tear up the HS scene for 4 years.

So he did the exact same in Iowa as he did here, no one has talked bad about Iowa like they do about our guys here.

Peterson was not really a bust.. R12 right out the gates as a freshman 4xNQ, beat several top guys in regular season. I could list many more guys before Peterson….

Yeah, examples like this are why "bust" is a very flexible term. I am sure there are others that I am not remembering now myself.

View attachment 1259411interesting Ayden Smith and Anthony Knox running together at the SKWC 5K last weekend. I wish Smith would stay, but i wish him best at his next stop.
What does A. Knox walk around at weight wise? 133 is definitely the tougher weight but in terms of long term goals wrestling 133 would put him up against better competition. Ayden and A. Knox would get a lot out of training with each other. Would be cool if something could be worked out.

Also, to go develop in a college room not cutting weight and training with Ashnault, just getting better at wrestling and only cutting weight for international stuff might benefit Knox in the long run.

Brands has said this has been their toughest season at Iowa.. their fan base were growing restless wanting new HC.. questioning if Iowa can develop wrestlers anymore, if “Iowa style” is even effective inj a lot of their wrestlers.. most of their portals haven’t been hitting, losing out on Bassets and a lot of recruiting battles for the true blue chip recruits.. then they go and get a nice recruiting class and over deliver at nationals..

A NCAA Qualifier is better than what we have now.
Maybe Magro or Mason can do better, but not proven.

Greyson Clark the 141 for Purdue is down to us, Indiana, or Illinois. Two time natty qualifier. Probably wouldn't move the needle too much but he's decent.
Could be a nice value pickup if no more $$ for Echemendia/Jaxon.. would certainly help win more duals and solidify weight, 2xNQ.. maybe could elevate to AA w/ AA coaching.

Yeah I'd be happy with it and I think is better than anything we have in the room. Ech is visiting Iowa apparently.

Not sure which weight Magro is going to crack the lineup but Crackers seems really high on him… and Parkins still at 141.. and he looks really big in that photo w/ Knox/Smith running..

Magro gave C Harer all he could handle in HS. I think that weight will be contested by both.

would take Greyson Clark over Gibson for sure. Solid wrestler. We need someone to fill 33/41 or at least contest at those weights vs what we have in house.

found it interesting that Ayden Smith was still very much involved in the Race on Sunday.

I'm eager to see if Magro and Harer are any better than when arriving. I wish we knew if Gibson won't be at 133, then I can agree he isn't a good 141.

I'll be sorry to see Smith leave, but it's in his best interest.

So you are saying you think Magro might be able to win starting spot at 157 if C Harer isn’t sharp?

Yeah, G Clark would obvious be an upgrade over Gibson but Gibson really needs to go 133.. and is Parkins invisible to you guys lol I’m assuming he can still make 141? He looks massive in the pic next to Smith/Knox.. maybe Nini can drop to 141 also since Brandt Harer seems to be going 149.

Maybe Ayden Smith is just testing the market by going into the portal.. sometimes they end up not leaving.. if I recall correctly.. Yara entered the portal, the year after he AA’d, but eventually didn’t end up leaving.

I really hope so.. Harer had a lot of hype prior to coming.. he showed glimpses of that hype w his top game, and beating the guy that eventually went on to take 4th… I guess that’s the equivalent of someone beating Lamer this year in regular season(really bad regular season) but he eventually’d took 4th at nationals.

If Gibson doesn’t go 133 then idk what he’s doing, even Goodale said he should go 133. Last year I gues 141 could make sense if he didn’t think he was going beat Shawver.

I hope Smith does what’s in his best interest that will benefit both parties.. people seem to hate the idea of him trying 133(if Knox set on going 125) and if it frees up some possible $$ then Smith gotta do what’s best for him.

Brian Swaw is saying Greyson Clark is deciding between two schools, with Rutgers being one of them. Other is either Indiana or Illinois not sure. Also said Ungar is deciding between two schools. Not sure if we're one of them but he did visit.

Ungar was one of the top HS prospects in the country. Never got close to reaching what people thought was his potential. My guess is he was one of those lighter weights that was always way older than his opponents which is why he aged-out of NJ and ended up in PA his senior year. I’d pass unless the number is reasonable.

Who would you want at 133? I don't see Gibson having success in the Big 10 personally.

Tbh does Ungar have anything left in the tank? He was R12 his freshman year then every other year after, his results have gotten progressively worst.. and did he lose his starting spot to Ferrera last year?? W how stacked 133 will be next year not sure if Ungar or any current 133 in portal will move the needle at nationals…

For those that put a lot of weight in hs credentials, Gibson was a 3x super 32 finalist, Fargo U16 freestyle champ, Powerade champ, #53 recruit, so he’s not chopped liver. Even though he was wrestling up a weight last year, he did show glimpses of fight imo.. I’d roll the dice on Gibson unless Ungar’s number is very reasonable.

He showed glimpses of being a dynamic and exciting wrestler last year. I'd be interested to see what he could do at 133, if he can make the weight.
