Good players, before the summer!

Haha, IDK--this year seems so fluid and roller coastery. Hoping we get some good news as the week progresses.

I just think it's hilarious how nobody recruited these mid major kids out of high school, they go to said mid major for 1-2 years, leave them in the lurch and then go get way overpaid and wined and dined at the Power 5 level. What a country!

Some tidbits from the Condon/Locked on Hawkeyes podcast this morning:
  • McKeever has visited both Cincy and UConn this week, following his Iowa visit. As has been reported in this thread, UConn just picked up a commitment from another big man, and Cincy apparently has a couple of portal guys signed already, so Iowa remains in a good position. That said, other schools, like Michigan, are poking around, and the price may be going up.
  • Sounds like maybe Iowa moved on from Ace Glass. Or at least "deprioritized" him.
  • Things are "trending positively" for Kyan Evans, who visited both Iowa and Minnesota this week.
  • Iowa is in a strong position for Ty'Reek Coleman, especially if he makes it to Iowa for his visit, and hasn't committed to one of the 2/3 other schools he is visiting first. McCollum's staff apparently recruited him out of high school, so there is an existing relationship.
Good stuff - thanks MR!👍

I didn't know about the last bullet -the existing relationship with Coleman. If BM wanted him before and he's coming in then I think he ends up a Hawk.

Looks like the Indiana billionaires are stepping up.

The full text of the tweet:

Indiana and Darian DeVries putting together one heck of a portal class:

Markus Burton (Notre Dame)
18.5 PPG, 3.7 APG, 2.8 RPG, 1.6 SPG

Aiden Sherrell (Alabama)
11.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 1.1 APG, 2.2 BPG

Samet Yigitoglu (SMU)
10.7 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.3 BPG

Bryce Lindsay (Villanova)
12.3 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.1 APG

Jaeden Mustaf (Georgia Tech)
10.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2.4 APG

Darren Harris (Duke)
3.3 PPG, 0.8 RPG, 0.4 APG

Incredible start for the Hoosiers in Year 2 of the DeVries era

Armchair opinion: Coleman seems to fit McCollum’s system very well and appears to be a better overall player than Evans. Reports show four teams pursuing Coleman - I hope Ben wins this one.

I'm thinking we only take Scharnowski (or someone like him) if we don't land McKeever. I suppose he could take them both if he thinks Banks return is low odds.
I would think we take both Evans and Coleman if possible.
Coleman has multiple years of eligibility left and we know BM likes his game/fit.
Evans only has 1 year left but he does have good experience. He may thrive in BM system. Plus, BM has shown he will take a one year guy as insurance/depth (Hausen).

Hard to play the waiting game -I hope the first domino falls soon!

I keep hearing that decisions will be coming soon, which makes sense. Kids want to get their slot before it's taken by someone else. You don't want to be playing musical chairs and be left standing.

Agreed. But how do you end it? Every time someone (the NCAA, etc) tries to do something, they get sued & they lose in court.

The person asking is responsible?

What are these agents doing to force these businesses and individuals pay?

I agree about Scharnowski, we don't have a true power rebounder on the roster. Not a 7 footer but tough inside. Starting to think McKeever is seeking the biggest bag.

Interesting; thanks!
Well immediate PT would be much more here than at Cincy given that portal add at Center for them. Now, how much more they offering and how might that satisfy a player by sitting on the bench more vs. PT?

Cinci also has three good sized (6'10 - 7'2) other players (F and two C's) returning besides the portal add, and two of those played quite a bit. Again, the path to the court is much more clean at IOWA.
