Should our guys live in Wildcat Lodge?

On one hand if this team was as bad in the locker room as it sometimes seemed they were then maybe we were better off with them living as far awar from each other as possible.

Otoh ALL our great teams lived together and you would think that would be one good way to mold them into a real team.

Thoughts?

I think living together would be optimal. Just don’t think it’s feasible when they are all millionaires

Do you and your co workers need to live together to be able to work together?

Not that I have a problem with this thread but the timing was about right. Every few months we have a lodge debate it seems lol

But me personally I would like to stay at the lodge if I was a college kid and a member of a team. Maybe have a place on the side just in case I need time. I mean they do make millions. Rent an apartment on the side. Live in the lodge 95% of the time.

That's what always made sports special imo was the team bonding locker room stories war on the field together. The brotherhood that came with it. Idk if I would love sports like I do if I didn't know what was really behind it.

LOL is corporate America the standard?

Even if it was we don't need guys who can work together.

We need guys who can be the tightest most cohesive unit in the country to outbattle over 300 other teams for a title.
Considering this is a job for them, sure!

Doesn't that include working together?

Did Michigan players all live together?

Build a sick apartment building with millionaire quality suites. Make them feel like they're living in penthouses in Manhattan with all the bougie flair that generation likes.
Do you think for a moment that Barnhart would allow the eventual new AD to have such apartments built? These are student athletes we are dealing with after all.

I don’t know…I’m not a creep lol.

but I can use basic discernment to assume increased time together helps build chemistry.
Lol, what do you think their living arrangements are?

If, as logic would likely dictate, other teams are still successful without their players living in a shared space, why does UK need it?

Ideally, but these aren't ideal times. I would think that security might be an issue considering how things have gotten. It's easier to secure a single building than over a dozen apartments/rental homes around Fayette County. More money, more problems.

You’re trying to create a debate about something I don’t care enough about to debate. I never said anything about being behind any other programs whatsoever. I simply said it’d be better if we could and I even said it isn’t feasible this day and time.

If you disagree with any of that, I’m good just agreeing to disagree. Pick a battle I care about later on and I’d love to debate you. Just not about players living in the lodge.

You care some. You keep responding.

Players lived together for decades and still only won 8 championships. Teams are still quite good without living together.

So, clearly this idea that we would be better just because players live together isn't really logical.

We just aren't well coached or constructed. Living arrangements won't change that.

Unless married you’re absolutely right they should. Hard to do anything about it now as professional players though. lol.

"Only won 8 championships".:LOL::LOL::LOL: You act like that isn't extremely remarkable. I am not going to argue that living in the lodge is the only way or that it is feasible at this point but I'm guessing there would likely be some benefit to it.

8 in almost a century. We only have one in the last quarter century. UCONN has 6 since 1999. Duke has 3. UNC has 3, UF has 3, KU has 2

UConn zero had prior to '99. 8 championships is extremely impressive by any measure. Only UCLA has more and the NCAA turned a blind eye to Sam Gilbert buying their teams to get all but one of those.
I can’t remember which player it was between Abdul Jabbar or Bill Walton but I can remember hearing one of them took a pay cut when they left UCLA and went to the NBA.

UConn had zero before 1999, Duke had 2 before 1999 and zero before 1991, UNC had 3 before 1999, Florida had 0 before 1999, Kansas had 2 before 1999. Kentucky's 8 is of course superior to everyone you listed. The 1999 starting point you chose is of course conveniently the year after Kentucky had won 2 out of 3 which would have been a threepeat if not for horrendously crooked officiating against Arizona. If you start at 1996 UConn would be the only school with more than UK.

It could have very well been one to three more for UK without the Rooferee's reign of terror. That would potentially have taken away two of UConn's title's just in UK vs. UConn and Higgin's games as well.

Do these guys even attend classes anymore? Do they live off campus and commute in each day for class and practice? I dunno… just for the sake of convenience, if I was actually doing these things, I think I’d live on campus at the Lodge. It ain’t like the Lodge is some dumpy dorm.

While I’d advise the freshman and anyone else who wants to stay there, definitely do it, the older guys have ladies and sometimes they’re married so probably want their own place. It does create a family atmosphere and they become closer together. Probably have a chef and all the amenities any world class athletes would ever want, that would be hard to turn down for a young player I’d imagine.

Expecting today’s millionaire mercenaries to live like normal college students ain’t gonna fly. Even the deluxe standards of Wildcat Lodge won’t cut it in this new era.
Of course not for the 23 plus year olds. The younger guys will have the best time of their lives there and have relationships and memories for the rest of their lives because of it. Money is great and all but the whole Kentucky Basketball player experience is priceless.
