He was following me and his back legs just gave out. I picked him up to reset him. He walked 5 feet and fell again. I picked him up and said Benji what's wrong bubba? He looked up at me and just fell limp. I knew this day was coming but God I feel like I just lost my best friend all over again. My parents got me that dog to help me post deployment. I'm sorry for posting this here but I don't know where the other parts of the forum are. I'm distraught and I don't care if people mock me.

Those that's had this happen (I'm terribly sorry for you) should I bury him or have him cremated? Phuck man life is **** anymore.

Sorry to hear.

Take comfort in the fact you got to be together in the end and he went out on his terms. Sounds like he didn't suffer either.

Had our 12 year old Beagle cremated, they put his ashes in a little box, it's setting in our China cabinet! It's heartbreaking!

Thanks Bro. That's a good idea if I can find it. It happened back when I was in college and I was so depressed over first breaking up with my fiancee and then losing my dog I moved away and lost track of everything for a long time after that friend moved. It's somewhere up Paris Pike from Lexington, maybe I should go drive around there and see if I can remember anything. I do remember a big rock I buried her near.
I can understand that. It’s a lot to go thru as a young man.

Sorry to hear brother. Always tough to lose our best friends. Tough to see now but it will slowly ease from heartbreak to fond memories over time.

Had my little guy 18 years. Live on 5 acres and for most of that time just opened the front door and let him run around and come back when he was through. Tough little guy that Dodged cars, wild animals, and Hawks all that time and breathed his last on his blanket in the same spot we brought him home 18 years earlier. A joy that whole time

So sorry to hear this man! Breaks my heart! I don’t care what anyone says, it’s as bad as losing a family member!! I had my 15 year old Yorkie cremated so that when the time is right and I’m mentally able to, I’m going to have a necklace made with her ashes.

Praying for God to send you comfort, as only he can! 🙏🏻

I have one that is 15 and close to death. She struggles to get up but once up, does ok. We know it won't be long and have prepared for this. Will let the vet dispose of body when gone.

Sorry for your loss. They are a big part of the family.

My condolences. Honestly though, probably the best way he could have gone out. 17 years, and doesn’t suffer, and gets to go in your arms.

Prayers with you. You lost a Family Member. Ain't easy, it will take a while to get through this tunnel, but you seem like you're young enough that when you feel comfortable to get back in the game of life. Had 7 in my time/ 2 are left one though is 14 and I Pray everyday the little guy will outlast me. I found the toughest thing in life is losing a Dog. But believe me you'll have enough Love for another one when the time is right. No mod [and I'm not one of them for sure} will disrespect your post. Good folks one here and they'll support you.

In my Prayers!

Michael sorry for the loss of your buddy. I know it can't be easy. I've never been a big pet person but I got close to a cat that showed up a few years ago. Very sweet cat. When she was killed by roaming dogs I cried like a baby.

I lost my 13 yr old boy three weeks ago in similar way. He woke up and couldn't walk and died quickly before I could get him euthanized... I buried him under a tree I have buried my other best friends... it never gets easier.

Sorry for your loss, just think about those great 17 years you got with him and the great life you gave him that many dogs are not lucky enough to have.

Losing a friend like that hurts like Losing a family member. Don't be afraid to grieve. Bengi died with the one he loved. Be thankful you had that moment with him.

Fostering dogs is such a great thing to do. Nice use of your time for sure. 👍
We’ve tried to foster a couple times …,and ended up keeping both dogs forever.

One was a rescue from a backyard puppy mill in South Carolina who was both mean and skittish. Very scared of all men. Would cower, growl and pee if I approached him at first.

We ended up keeping him, and now he loves everyone, isn’t afraid of men and wears sweaters in the winter (my wife’s doing. Lol).

No regrets and watching the transformation is one of the most rewarding things I have ever been able to part of. He just needed to feel safe.
