Let me say that I'm not a Mark Pope cheerleader. He has definitely underachieved here for UK standards.

I'm trying to stay impartial until after the portal/high school cycles are over but it doesn't look good. If he continues to miss in recruiting this year, I won't care if he has a good season. That would just mean he'll never attain greatness here. I still see a path for Mark but it's getting narrower and darker by the day.

I want him to succeed, but I think he's a square peg trying to fit into a round hole at UK.

Go ahead and fire away.

Can’t be a top 25 team without Freeman n Stokes n Zoom . Lose one of those 3 and it’s a Non tourney team . It’s a horrible day for Pope with what Ul and IU are doing . Time to close today

I do but I know of a couple guys we already have in the bag. We need a public announcement soon to keep some of you away from the ledge, though. lol

I actually believe in Pope. I believe is is never going to be successful here, he will never have fan support, and he will never be able to recruit. I believe he is a nerd that can not relate to today's kids. There is a lot to believe about Pope but not sure it meets the requirements of a KY head basketball coach. He most likely would be a great Nextdoor neighbor. That is a good thing I believe.

If there is ANY good news whatsoever, they need to share it. This pure silence at all costs is beyond stupid. It’s pure Barnhart.

At the end of the day, it's our program. So, I'm going to root for us to win. I'm going to support our players and staff. But that said, I have zero faith we will be better than Middle Tennessee School for the Blind this year. Like Pope the man and the former player, do not like Pope the coach and recruiter. He's in WAY over his head, and has been, and is either too stubborn to admit it and get help to fix it; or worse, is hamstringed by the administration and was chosen purposefully to be overwhelmed and systematically tank the program by Eli and Mitch (as a likeable face for the fans).

Of course I do. He could be the next Donovan or Hurley! Look at how those guys did in completely different circumstances their first two years in completely different eras.

He has had more than enough chances and he continues to fail in every imaginable way.

I have seen no evidence that he is the right coach for the job. He fails in every aspect of the job.

Those who support him at this point are merely doing so based on blind optimism. The evidence does not support them.

Honestly, and I don't mean this as shade to you but I don't care either way. I want UK to win, I follow along and I pay for premium access, but win lose or draw, it is what it is for me. I honestly don't care. I started losing my love for UK bball when I noticed just how foul the fanbase is (if you are upset at that remark, yes I mean you because I spoke no ones name), when Cal came in and help start this mess and now this. I watch and then move on with my life and that is not apathy for Pope before anyone says that, no it is apathy for UK basketball that goes back to toward the end of Tubbys run

That's a reasonable position. I was piling on myself and decided to do what your doing. Wait until the portal is over and we will know where we stand. Personally I dont see anything ahead other than the temporary collapse of our program.


I would love to be wrong.

I had soured on Pope a bit when he built roster #2 and it’s been steadily declining since. I thought he would make some changes and at least do better this portal cycle and even convinced myself to be positive.

I stand here today with zero hope for the roster this season and wish he would just move on. No HS commitments, no portal commitments, minimal retention, off chasing Stokes when he should be locking down others, and doesn’t have a GM or a full coaching staff at the most important junction of his career.

It’s shockingly bad.
