The first is I have grown to absolutely loath the phrase, 'We've just got to find a way fix it'. I have heard that repeated ad infinitum from every coach, fan, and every talking head in every sport for the past year and beyond to the point it is now ad nauseum. I just want one sport. Just one sport that I care anything about that doesn't 'need fixing' now that I can enjoy watching it instead of being subjected to several hours of misery and/or apathy. I thought we finally had one. A baseball team that was stacked to the gills with talent. A team with the #1 portal class, a returning All-American. A team led by a coach with a long, well established, blue chip resume.
It all started so incredibly well. 25-4. Consensus top 5. 7-2 with two SEC sweeps. All is well with the world. Then, perhaps the cruelest twist possible in a completely horrendous sports period. That team goes from top 5 for half the season and sweeping two SEC series to getting swept TWICE!! AT HOME!!! I still cannot wrap my head around that. How does EVERY FREAKING PLAYER on a roster filled with .300+ hitters suddenly, and at the same time, become unable to hit!! That cannot be a random occurrence. There has got to be something we all missed with this baseball team. Some hidden fatal flaw that was suddenly revealed and unlocked.
Finally. Could there have ever been a worse time to kick off the State1878 project? Kicking off this unprecedented initiative to fund NIL at precisely the same time that baseball, our crown jewel program, who had apparently FINALLY risen to the 'blue blood' standard we all thought it was., went from top of the heap to the garbage heap in the most complete and utter collapse possible, AT HOME!! Yeah, that really makes you want to sign up!**
