Yes, very confident. I’ve said for weeks now that Stokes will be at UK. Now, with the portal season upon us, I am hearing really good things. In my opinion, we will have a final four roster that will be evident from day 1!
I wish I could share your optimism but I haven’t seen anything to give me the slightest bit of confidence…….going on 2 yrs now.
I never expected Hurley to take the job, but he is no where near as weird as Mark Pope. Also, Pope isn't recruiting well, nor does he have acceptable results. So your point is that we should be relieved because our team is no longer underachieving?
Because we don't have a few days. We're seeing our rivals pulling top guys left and right. We're way behind on building the roster and nobody has a clue who we will end up with. That's a pretty good reason or 5.
Pope is quickly running out of options to build a contender.
First and foremost, I hope you are right and that is a real possibility. On the other hand, UK basketball has become an embarrassment and under Mark Pope it’s become even more obvious. I’m sorry but just look at him .. listen to him .. watch him coach .. watch him interact with his players and BBN. He has taken this program to the gates of hell and doesn’t even know how to interact with BBN. I don’t necessarily relate to these young athletes but it’s very obvious they’re not comfortable with the man and I can sure see why.

14 losses an NO Top tier High School coming in tend to make most of us a bit skeptical plus little brother down the road has already signed not one but 2 of the top 10 in the portal.
I'll say it AGAIN, HOW DOES The University of Kentucky not have a single top 100 player recruited this year. People say he is " portal building" 11 of the top 20 portal guys are already gone. Will he get somebody eventually, sure. Will they be difference makers that can help resurrect our faltering program, its rapidly looking like NO. How does a UK coach think he can get by with that. I truly don't know WHAT the problem is, but its obvious we have a serious one that better get straightened out pretty quick.
There is no reason to believe Pope thinks he can get by with that. I don't know what the problem may be getting commits to this point but it's not settled yet.

How much more time does he need? How many more Hugh school and portal players can he whiff on year after year before you understand the issue at hand. He can’t recruit, he can’t coach.

I think the concern is a number of factors, and not just the past 48 hrs or so. His recruiting the previous two years was suspect at best. Year one was fine given the circumstances. That group was defined by their polish as players, as most had been 4 yr players. Then last yr's class was obviously not good. And now it appears like there could be some struggles. 15 of the top 25 portal players have committed. None to UK. Granted, Pope could land any of the 10 or so that are not committed. Then again, they are only linked to one or two of them. And sorta, kinda, maybe linked to the #1 HS recruit. Pope just has zero equity built and that mixed with all of the "meh" results and recruiting question marks...you can understand why some are at least tip toeing up to the edge of the cliff.
Not sure about "weirder"...but he's a helluva lot more dorky...and that ain't good. Kids don't identify with his milk and cookies a$$.

I agree with OP. I'm on the fence with Pope but want to be supportive at this point. Yes, I think this board affects recruiting and the ability of our coaches to succeed. Perception can be reality at some point.
