Dude, are you a politician? It’s pretty simple. What are the post season expectations?

Jan has been here 2 years, so if she doesn't get out of round 32 after _________________? years, then fire her, but in the meantime arguing about the same old old old crap doesn't add anything. If you can't fire her, then you have a decision or two to make. This is my opinion for a few others as well. lofreakingl

Yes! Chat was under a lot of pressure to perform as a ball-handler and scorer, and she did very well at both. It's just that a lot was thrown on her expectations-wise, as a sophomore. Not that she won't thrive in that environment (and again, I think she did well) but I agree that we may see her game elevate of Carnegie fills her role as we expect, and as she did last year at Georgia.
Chat had a lot of issues with cramping last season. I'm hoping that next year's roster allows Jan to lessen her workload so she isn't required to play through cramping.

Ok if she continually doesn’t make it out of the round of 32?? What then?
Again, Bluder didn't make it to the Sweet 16 until her 13th or 14th year at Iowa! Now, Jan is obviously older and times have changed as have expectations. However, those changed because of Caitlin Clark. And don't get me wrong, I think Bluder was a great representative of the U of I and a damn good basketball coach. But without CC she made 1 Elite 8 in all her years and she got bludgeoned in that game. Also, the conference didn't have UCLA and USC. Yes, it's fair to critique Jan and certainly to question things, it's a message board. However, when your team goes 27-7 and gets 2nd place and a 2 seed to base it all on what round of the tourney did she get to is pushing it. Should we also then be asking why Kirk Ferentz has not ever made the college playoffs? And if he doesn't make it soon should he be fired? The answer to that is no.

What do we like about Whiting? I know nothing about her game other than stats…mediocre 3 point shooter at best. Defender? Kylie replacement?

Comparing to Kylie, she has a similar high motor on defense. Her defense might be a slight drop off from Kylie, but even if that's the case, she makes up for it by being a better offensive threat. She's a better overall offensive player than Kylie. She's a better 3pt shooter, and has a much better total FG%. She has a significantly higher number of double digit scoring games than Kylie did. She also has way better rebounding numbers than Kylie did.

I'm not sure how much better a shooter she is. Kylie shot 33% from 3 had an EFG% of 43.6% in conference play and Whiting shot 25% from 3 and had an EFG% of 42.1%.

Anybody know her wingspan? Kylie's slim build and long arms really helped her be a lockdown defender.

I'm thinking that maybe we're shopping for quality depth at this point 🤔. She'll be a senior so a one and done. Nothing really stands out, but she rebounds pretty good for a guard.
You are getting a starter quality player to come in and play as a backup. She is Senior so her scholarship can roll into future commits. There is very little downside with this type of commit. Hardnose player, willing to play defense and can shoot decently well. We are now up to 8 players for 2026/2027.

Amari Whiting, 5-10, G, Jr. (9.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.8 spg)

As you can see she has 4 categories listed. Most only have 1 or 2 in the portal.
As for the Kylie reference, What she gives up in defense you'll get back in offense if not more.
Also, think of more of an upgraded/enhanced Callie Levin as well on offensive side and while retaining much of her defense.

She's a well rounded and not a specialist in any one area.
She's a sound player and a coach's kid,
We played against her and her mom (BYU) in the Cancun tourney Jan's 1st year. Mom got fired and Amari went to OK St last yr.

Need to look at her more closely now that it appears to be an imminent commit. I'm going off my initial high level look at her when her name surfaced as visiting. That's what the #s below indicate.

She needed to hit a minimum of 35% to make the 3&D list.
This how she compares to these Iowa players when taking into account all games played:

Just did a quick deeper second look now. After looking at her Top 50 team #s, I may need to reeval what we're getting here. The better the teams, she takes a hit (maybe too much). Who knows what happens against Top 20 which is probably ~1/3 of our schedule + the ending tourneys surely you're hitting quality teams better than Top 50.

Looks like I need to compare Top 50 #'s of the players I listed in the grid above to see how much it differs between them and then report back the results.

Just use conference numbers when comparing players. What they did against the likes of UNI is kind of irrelevant.

Another thing that made it harder to win a Big 10 championship a few years ago when Lisa was coach was when Rutgers came in and especially Maryland who was a top team in the country.
