oops, my bad. The NCAA found that tampering occurred in 2022. My only concern is that the NCAA is setting too high of a bar by handing down tampering penalties 4 years after the fact.

last reply to my own post: it took the NCAA 4 years to hand down a punishment even though they say Iowa and Ferentz were open and honest throughout the investigation. Ferentz was suspended by the school for a game in 2024.

Yet somehow, even though they were compliant in admitting their violation, it still took 4 years to get to this point?

It doesnt seem to pass the giggle test.
every time I"m about to sympathize with the NCAA for all the ridiculous eligibility lawsuits, they go and do something stupid like this just to remind you how incompetent they are. Years to hand down a penalty against a coach and school who admitted at the outset that they were guilty.

Coupled with inaction against coaches caught red handed.

The NCAA has been a joke for a long time. I find amusement in them trying to make themselves look worse at each turn. I prefer that over getting ticked about it.

I guess if you extrapolate for a coach/program who are not forthcoming, you're looking at 8-10 years for penalties to come down, if at all.

And, not that it should matter, b/c rules are rules, but Ferentz is one of the most highly respected coaches in the game. Lane is a known, and openly proud, dirtbag.

Edit: yes, Dabo's beef was Golding at Ole Miss, but Lane is still a dirtbag.

Thats part of the joke though. A big school commits a penalty, so a small unknown school gets punished.

For reference, just a smidge over 6 years passed between the Oklahoma City bombing and Timothy McVeigh's execution. He was caught, indicted, fully investigated, tried, convicted, and executed in just 2 more years than it took the NCAA issue a penalty to Iowa over tampering. I guess it's a good thing the NCAA isn't in charge of the Artemis moon missions or else none of us would live to see it.

I wish the states would execute criminals that quickly. State death row inmates enjoy decades of room and board at the taxpayer's expense.
