SureI don't care about polls when there is a post season tournament to decide the champion. Doesn't matter where you are ranked, you are going to have to beat the best to be the best.

There is quite a bit of criteria involved in seeding a team. SOS, RPI, etc. I don't think a poll where teams are ranked based on people's opinions carries the weight it once did.Sure
But we REALLY want top 8 seeding to stay at home
You also have to factor in relational aspects, like conference standings. Last year I think we benefited from being the second highest RANKED acc team despite finishing the season fourth in the league standings. Obviously winning the tournament validated that, but with unbalanced league schedules the rankings help crystallize things. This year the high end of the league is higher than it was last year, you could conceivably have 3 ACC teams in the top 8 rankings and you would maybe see the lowest of those three kicked out of the national seed tier based on metrics/whatever. We’re basically guaranteed UCLA as a national seed, probably 3 SEC teams, then 2 ACC and an independent/big 12/g5. So as long as you’re the second highest ranked ACC team you’re good, I’d be nervous if we were ranked 6 but 2 teams ahead were ACC teams.
pretty sure i remember us being second right behind FSU by about half a game.. they played less games due to cancellationYou also have to factor in relational aspects, like conference standings. k fine. but i doubt that holds up deep into conference play. Some of the series Ore St scheduled according to D1 guys ended up being tougher than expected but guess their overall schedule was decent.Oregon State's RPI is #6. UNC #14
Our goal should be to win every series and especially every home series. But I think reality is that as long as we go 1-2 this weekend we won’t hurt our national seed case too much. GT appears to be one of two teams (along with UCLA) that reside in a tier that no one else in the country has reached. So we finish top 2 in the ACC we get a top 8 seed in all likelyhood
Thats my goal
This weekend obviously a big deal
I know exactly what you mean. The team has been much better than the sum of its parts, imo. And sometimes I think it is simply a culture in the dugout. They like winning. They expect to win. They feel prepared to win.I have a hard time thinking we’re the 3rd best team in the country. Probably because we’ve won 5 conference games where we trailed in the 8th or later and it doesn’t feel we can keep that up forever. But it doesn’t matter what I think. The results are the results and this weekend we have a chance to make me look dumb.
Although it’s a large part of seeding, there is no way we would not be a national seed with our only two series losses to GT and UVA if that’s how it plays outCarolina is currently 11 in RPI , do you think we have to win the GA Tech series for a national seed? Would seem like it with the RPI of Dook , Pitt and State , Dook sits at 99 , Pitt at 73 and State currently at 61. We honestly need all the above to play well down the stretch and BC to continue playing well .
I agree. This weekend will tell us the story, I think. We don’t have wins against top 20 teams yet. But we’ve been consistent against our schedule, have 30 wins, and have shown grit, resiliency, and pitching depth. I’m excited to ride the wave.I have a hard time thinking we’re the 3rd best team in the country. Probably because we’ve won 4 conference games where we trailed in the 8th or later plus in the bottom of the 7th against BC and it doesn’t feel we can keep that up forever. But it doesn’t matter what I think. The results are the results and this weekend we have a chance to make me look dumb.
GT last year also hurt themselves with some pretty low lows (lost their second series of the year to Marshall; swept by Miami followed by series loss to UVA, who missed the tournament that year), which we so far have been able to avoid. Though I agree re SEC biasWell the reason i ask is GT won the regular season last year in the ACC and didn't even host , i know they didn't play Carolina, FSU and one other team at the top . Carolina has missed FSU, Miami and Wake Forest this year. I know you play who the ACC says you play and LVille and State and Dook have been worst than anticipated this year and below historical averages. SEC bias is real.
I think we can lose the GT series and win the Pitt, Duke and NCSU series and still reach our ultimate goal…a national seed. We’d go:Desperately need to win the series against GT. It will be tough to win the regular season if we don’t.
Where is the SEC bias in these rankings? ACC has 4 of the top 10, 2 of the top 3. SEC has 3 in the top 10.GT last year also hurt themselves with some pretty low lows (lost their second series of the year to Marshall; swept by Miami followed by series loss to UVA, who missed the tournament that year), which we so far have been able to avoid. I was referencing more generally than about this week’s rankings. And I’m not saying it’s a conspiracy or an entirely unfounded bias — the SEC is the best baseball conference, and that’s supported by the stats. It’s a high tide that lifts all their ships. Luckily for us, the ACC is a close second and (I like to think) getting closer all the timeWhere is the SEC bias in these rankings? ACC has 4 of the top 10, 2 of the top 3. SEC has 3 in the top 10.
I got my wish.I’ll take it. I want us in the Top 3 at the end of season. After football and baseball, we need this.
