I don’t care what you think about baseball, hell that dysfunction just adds to it. We suck at every 17ing part of this.

We don’t agree, we aren’t united, we aren’t good. We don’t know how to market.

We are cheap though, so that’s one thing. But many don’t like that part of it either.

The one thing we thought we had, just hit reality.

With NIL, good times don’t seem to be coming

2005-2006 academic year was pretty bad:
-3-8 Football
-Basketball didn't make the postseason
-Baseball didn't make it out of the Clemson regional

This was before Matt Roberts was hired as tennis coach so we didn't even have that going for us back then

NIL has ruined any chance of anything regarding consistency. Especially at schools our size. I have completely detached from all of it. All of our coaching hires are laterals and never an upgrade. For sure the late 80s and early 90s weren’t good. Except for couple years in basketball.

Not in a long, long time. Football has had REALLY bad times, but either basketball and / or baseball was always there to look forward to. We may salvage the baseball season yet. We have a good weekend next weekend and all of a sudden things are in a better place. But right now? This sucks. I think the main thing is we all needed this season to be not just good but great. We really needed it. Are we over reacting? Probably. But at this point I think we have kind of earned it.

I’m glad this post was made. Because I truly don’t remember over the last two decades a more depressing last two years, where our big three sports are this much of a pit of garbage.

Looks like I’m going to have to order the side salad at Oby’s in order to enhance my round-up NIL contribution.
One of the worst parts of this NIL era is knowing that we’ve got two of the Big 3 programs in the absolute $hitter with the third making up ground at light speed, and yet nearly everyone associated with these programs is making more money than most of us could dream of making.

There is no accountability in college athletics these days for sucking. We just keep feeding the beast and telling ourselves that more $ will bring the wins

Time to join the Sunbelt. And we probably wouldn’t be more than middle of the pack there.

Got there in the late 60's so I've seen a lot of hard times come and go. The difference in this time to me is that in all those other times I always thought WE just screwed things up but that WE could control our own destiny by getting OUR own schit together . It doesn't feel that way this time, there just seems to be too much stacked against us that we can do nothing about this time.

Bruh 2007 we went to a bowl in football, won SECW in basketball and went to Omaha in baseball, you are smoking crack

Went to the Dance in 2008 too
If you would have looked at that 2007 baseball team midseason, you would have been disappointed too. This baseball team is certainly in a free fall right now but there is too much talent for that to continue. I’m betting they get it turned around. Maybe not in enough time to be a national seed though. I still wouldn’t be shocked to see this baseball team in Omaha.

But to the other sports, yeah I agree it’s dog ****

It happens every. Damn. Time. In every. Damn. Sport. It appears we have things going in the right direction, getting our hopes up. By all means we are on an upward trajectory then BOOM!......massive diarrhea all over the damn bed. It's fascinating to me how it never fails.

No point in my post I just needed to vent. It's so damn frustrating because the athletic department obviously has no clue how to fix it.

NIL is not our issue. With competent coaching and evaluations this would be the best time in history to be a State fan, just like it is at Ole Miss. there has never been a better time for Mississippi State to be able to compete in all sports. The problem is we are not well run in any of the 3 major sports. Money is not our issue and the inability of the blue bloods to stockpile talent would be a great advantage to us if we were run properly. The biggest light at the end of the tunnel is that we have the money to be competitive in all of them at this point. I know this will be met with people that don’t have a clue as to what they are talking about saying we don’t, but they are wrong. We need to be holding the people at the top accountable for this. There is obviously a systemic issue here. We had the money to go after the best left tackle in the portal but whiffed on him and every other decent LT prospect. That’s not a lack of funds. That’s a dumbass running the show. We had money in basketball and signed a bunch of losers that quit on the school paying them. We have money in baseball and are sh*tting the bed.

Not worse than the Croom years. We did play hard for Croom, but damn the teams just were terrible all the way around. Worst coach ever in college. It was so bad I don't remember basketball or baseball.

I was in college at State during the Croom years and did not go to most home games and i have gone to most since Mullen arrived and went to most prior to Croom. He was the worst SEC football coach i have ever seen and i am not sure there is a close second. Him badmouthing the school after we fired him way past his expiration date made me actually hate him.

We have zero plan
Yo, mic check, one, two, one two
If State really wanted to be the best they could be,
They’d stop feeding the calf and start fueling the golden goose, G.
$20.5 million rev share pool on the table right now,
Football could take $14 to $16 million, no sweat, no bow.
Cut the fat from baseball’s $4.2 million red hole,
Drop women’s hoops from $5.4 million- watch the surplus grow.
Minimum on non revenue- Slice it down to $12–15 mil flat,
That frees up $10–15 million to push straight to the football stack.
Then the NIL collectives- Push ‘em hard to $12–18 mil more,
Add facilities, portal bags ect- now we talking real war.
Total football spend could hit $31 to $42 million a year,
That’s easy Top 10 nationally, no more shedding tears.
That money buys Oline beasts, skill players that actually fly,
Better coaches, better NIL deals, watch the wins multiply.
From 5-7 to 9–3, playoff contention in sight,
One engine running strong makes the whole damn department ignite.
Stop subsidizing losers and start feeding the golden goose right,
Football first- everything else rides the wave when it takes flight.
Go State! but only if we stop playing checkers with the cash,
Time to play chess- put it all on football and watch the future flash!
This IS the plan, I’m the man.
Deficit Dawg is in the pack,
Haters gonna hate,
It’s the return of the Mack! 💥🎤😎

Has there ever been a worse time? Probably not. But, one thing I’ve learned as an MSU fan….is that it as bad as it is today, it can ALWAYS get worse tomorrow. So, enjoy today, for it is likely the golden age of MSU sports over the next 24 hours.

1986 & 1987 were bad.
Maybe the 1985-86 school year.
Football 5-6, 0-6 in the SEC
Basketball 8-22, 3-15 in the SEC
Baseball 34-21, 12-15 in the SEC
No postseason in anything
We canned both the football(Emory Bellard) and basketball(Bob Boyd) coaches

1986-87
Football 6-5, 2-4 in the SEC
Basketball 7-21, 3-15 in the SEC
Baseball 39-22, 13-13 in the SEC
We did win the SEC Tournament in Baseball and hosted a regional which we didn't win

So yeah, 1985-86 was bad

I agree but we will never ever be able to unite as a fanbase behind the idea that we have to have a unique approach. Therefore it reverts back to sheer money and we will lose that one.

Problem during the Croom years was that we were just flat out embarrassing. People felt sorry for us. Everything about the program was goofy. It felt like some sort of cartoon Bear Bryant spoof without all the talent.

OH HELL yes there has been a worse time to be a State fan. What are you 30?

State has been underfunded as compared to others since I was born (1963) and before. With SEC monies fund State above around 70-80% of the teams. I have seen far worse times.

Yep. That was the absolute crater for football. Everything about it was amateur hour. Football sucks now but I will never enjoy football less than I did during the Croom era
