We were told on this mesaage board that Seton Hall was going to be competitive this portal season when it came to NIL. Assuming that wasn't a smoke screen by those who overindulge in the Pirate Kool Aid, then I say give Hines, or some other top flight transfer, the 3-4 million and show us all you are serious about basketball.

The funny thing is, didn't we at least have Clark wrapped up at this point last year? He was a done deal by the time the Final Four got underway. What do we have wrapped up at this point this year?

I wanted Hines as badly as anyone but it now appears that he is just far beyond our resources. He's ranked as the #3 Center in the Portal and the top 2 are said to be off the board. So he is the top available Center which should net him $4-5 Million. And it seems like he is going for the last dollar so even if we committed more than half our budget, a wealthy team could just keep going and up their offer.

With Budd, it seems we eventually made a strong offer and he declined. Really sucks and says a little about our culture, our process and how players feel about Seton Hall. Hopefully we recognize this issue and make improvements.

So we are starting from scratch. Let's see how we do. Its frustrating seeing Xavier, Butler, Providence and others making impact signings early. Apparently we have our first commit, should be announced soon.

Not sure it says as much about players' low regard for the Hall as it does about their desire to earn as much money as possible while they can. Why would someone who is here for just one season---- in all likelihood just one semester----- feel loyalty?

Reading tea leaves around here it wasn’t just money that pushed Clark to explore other opportunities.

I’ve advocated for the most aggressive top heavy spending approach possible, but $4-$5 million for Hines is not possible even under my approach. It’s just too much. I’d hoped that Najai might fly under the radar a bit due to his lack of playing time and conditioning, but he clearly didn’t. The sharp coaches knew.

Crazy to think we had a player this good and we never deployed him to his full capability.

Mind boggling. I'm willing to bet he's never out of shape at his next location.
