That one paycheck is probably larger than the athletic department budget for all but the tops of the mid major programs

Why? Schools can pay directly.

Because the revenue share amount is limited per agreement. Each sport is getting whatever is budgeted and at least for the Big Ten the $20 mil nut is already covered. So an additional few million coming in should in theory have no impact on revenue share payments. No doubt there are violators.

Who didn’t participate in the NCAAT and hence did not earn any money for the conference. It’s good for us that we get an even share, but I can understand why the heavy hitters in basketball and football don’t like this arrangement.

No they haven’t liked it but we’re usually an easy conference win with a nice new stadium north of Chicago.

When the Grant of Rights end it will be interesting to see if freeloaders like Northwestern will stay in the B1G.

I think even Rutgers is safer, because they at least have a TV market they bring. Same with Maryland. Although, I think they’re both potentially at risk as well if some realignment super cycle kicked up

On any given day half the teams lose. The blue blood teams need well funded, well coached, opponents to get to the dance even if some of the games are merely scrimmages. They need teams like NU to be good enough to beat Non Con opponents to polish their record while supplying them with respectable wins.
