Why are you boomers always angry about everything?
Might be because those we have been trying to leave something good only wants to screw up everything.
Society has changed from decade to decade making changes to almost everything and for the most part, change has been good.

Greed and power is at an all time fever. In the past, we didn't see it like today due to the internet.

Younger kids today and most people in their 30's and early 40's only see and think about what is in front of them. Look at history and what is happening with Iran. Agree with this or not, but this Iran issue has been in the making for over 4 decades and now it is time to pay the piper.
People do no understand due to the education and media do not talk about our history, just what is right in front of them.

Kids do not understand history in sports due to all this. All they care about is who is the hot player on Xbox.
Coaches used to never be seen on the sidelines in street clothes; always a coat and tie.
We boomers look at that as respect while younger people think having a tie and coat while coaching basketball is nuts.

I would go into schools and see teachers dressed like slobs. Some wore no socks and clogs. What happened to being a leader?
Oh, that does not include dress I guess.

Younger kids do not want to put the time and effort into being the best; they go to the team that shows and tells them what they want to hear.

Boomers look at sports and see entertainment and understand hard work and when I see someone demanding 3 million to play when they are lucky and privileged to even be on a D-1 team, you know sports has no meaning except for the almighty dollar.

We hear all this BS about reparations for this group and that group for the sins 150 years ago, but what about all those players from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's that played college ball and brought in millions to the schools for their NIL but got paid nothing?
Where are their reparations?

Take your name, Chitwood. How many younger kids today would know who Chitwood was to Bobby Plump and the connection to Indiana high school basketball?
Education does not teach anymore but rather preach.

Kids need history to appreciate today.

Greed is now college sports.

the problem is the NBA is such a **** product to watch. College basketball is so much more entertaining then professional. Only playoff time matters in NBA.
I think there are a lot of issues contributing to the downfall of the NBA product (and not politics like some love to say):

1. The NBA has added too many teams since 1988 (seven, to be exact). So naturally, most of the teams are not playing to make deep playoff runs, especially in a 7 game series. That said, tanking has become a huge problem.

2. Players care more about longevity and being healthy humans than their predecessors do. Guys are playing much longer than they used to because of load management and being smart with their bodies. People love to villainize players for not playing through injuries because that's what Larry Bird would have done. Well, when guys are getting paid what they are now, they don't want to have to retire at 35.

Regardless, I don't watch it because it's boring lol

The B10 looks like it's in pole position across all sports with the way things are shaping up. It's already happening.
It really does. The Big Ten ruled both football and basketball this year, it has the reigning national champ in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball, and now seems to be moving toward the front in nearly all sports (it even has the current number one ranked baseball team).

I didn’t think the SEC would have to take a backseat to anyone in today’s era, but that does appear the direction college sports are going.

I am in my 70's and a life long fan. First they let UNC off for some of the most intense cheating we had ever seen. Then they opened up the transferring
and now the NIL........The college game I grew up watching is gone and will never return......I have tried to adjust to the "new ways", but it doesn't pique my interest like it once did.....

Depends how you define relevancy. Winning championships? Probably not. Being fun to watch and worth investing time in? Probably more so than whatever we end up stuck with going forward in the rent-a-team era.
Fun to watch? Those guys might not be able to dribble it past half-court. I know people love to worship the Unforgettables, but that's not reality in this century.

In addition to the recent dominance of the BIG TEN in college athletics ...

If there is any kind of relationship between the propensity to donate to schools via endowment funds and the potential for money to be donated to sports by rich and successful alumni, and I'm not saying there is, the Ivy League would quickly become a serious player in basketball if academic requirements were relaxed and serious money became available. The recent upsurge of Vanderbilt in both basketball and football comes quickly to mind, as an example.

I have been a UK fan for 60 yrs and having trouble adjusting to the current climate of college sports. I'm almost to the point of not caring or watching anymore.

I miss the pre NIL days and now totally uninspired with the current college sports climate.

I don't know what the answer is for myself, but I'm totally not happy about it.

It has changed so much for me and certainly not for the better.
I am with you Chuck. 73 years old and don’t even recognize the game today. Just put an asterisk by the last few years and all of the future years because it just isn’t the same. Money has ruined it all.

I long for the days when players played for the name on the front of the jersey. Give me a team of 5 mountain boys and I like my chances. I think we need to recruit more kids ftom eastern Kentucky if you catch my drift

Can we drop down to Division II while we’re at it. I’m sure our 6’3 mountain boy center would do great in the SEC?

Totally understand the apathy but it runs in cycles. When people play hard I can appreciate it more. This last year they didn't make me feel like being a fan. Just no heart. I have loved Kentucky for many years and will still but I have to see something.

I am the same way. When Kentucky plays, I will watch the games, but not with the same intensity and emotional investment as in the past.
If I have something better to do, I will do that, watching the recorded game later ... if I feel like it.
NOTE: I am 73 and have been a fan for over sixty-five (65) years, along with being a UK graduate (May '74) and a Fellow.
I chalk part of it up to age, adult responsibilities, varied interests etc. I'll watch...maybe. But you couldn't pay me to drive to a game, buy tickets, be around loud people and drunks. It used to be nothing to do that. And I think it's an age thing coupled with unrestricted free agency

Why are you such a stupid *******? Not everyone who disagrees with you is a boomer. Me nor my dad are boomers.
If it wasn’t for boomers ruining everything these young people wouldn‘t have to live in their mom’s basement and they’d have girlfriends, instead they have to fill the void playing video games all day. No wonder they‘re Mad. 😂

When my blood pressure levels went up (around March about 4 years ago) to 212/ 100 or so one day, I decided to pull back on watching games. Spent a few hours in the ER 9pm-2am. Now, if my teams get behind early, I turn it to something else knowing in the last few years we were not the comeback Cats. Yeah, last year we had some games but, not the same.

Considering the teams I follow, UK in the big three, Reds and Bengals professionally you would think I would have been dead by now. Saw the 2012 Cats championship, missed the Reds in 1990 (sitting in Saudi Arabia in the desert waiting for the war to start), and the Bengals... well, enough typed.

Don't really have a problem with NIL. Its the transfer portal thats the problem
Yes, but the NIL makes that even worse. If players can make more at a school that will pay them more because they need their skills, more will transfer.

My fix is if they leave one school for better pay at another, the losing school gets paid too to make up for having to replace him. Yes, I am being ridiculous and really have no idea how they can reign this in.

Yep. The youngsters think that nothing matters until after they were born. Some idiot posted a week or so ago the Rupp’s 4 championships were irrelevant. That’s pathetic and stupid. By that logic, Championships 30 years ago don’t matter. Thirty years from now, I guess titles won the last few years don’t matter.

If you want your team to be five white boys from EKY they're probably only winning a handful of games and getting absolutely thrashed in a very athletic SEC with (now) older players. KY doesn't produce enough talent to field a competitive team.

Kentucky was never meant to compete in this type of NIL environment. There’s a reason there’s not a single professional team (from any sport) in the Commonwealth.

Just like the Big Red Machine and other small market teams in the pre-collective bargaining era in the MLB, UK will become what the Cincinnati Reds are today, if they’re not already.

Nothing we can do, but play the hand we were dealt.
I don't think money is the issue and you can't say it is when we just fielded a team supposedly worth around $22M. I also believe many on Rafters said in years past that a program like UK would thrive in this environment. Now we're saying it won't because our state is poor? It's the coaching staff that was in place and the players they chose that's the problem. They paid millions for role players.

My dad said the same thing when I told him Duke paid a player 7 million for one season. I don't think he watched a game after the first half of the Gonzaga game. I didn't watch a whole game since the Louisville game.
Duke did not pay a player $7M. That was a false report by a Wisconsin troll with a social media account. I don't believe the player in question has even picked Duke yet.

Depends how you define relevancy. Winning championships? Probably not. Being fun to watch and worth investing time in? Probably more so than whatever we end up stuck with going forward in the rent-a-team era.
So wait, are you admitting you'd rather watch a bunch of young guys who come from a similar county than you even though they'd have no shot at a national championship and would likely lose most of their games? Yeah, sounds like a blast.

These young people throw around the boomer stuff like crazy. Like it makes them sound cool or something. You boomers don’t know squat! I can’t wait u til they become 50+. Every generation does this and every generation complains lol. The Boomer thing is overplayed but where do you think that comes from? Older folks naturally complain about how the world is "now" and how awful youngsters are. And the Boomer thing really got going because folks looked around at the world and noticed old people with a tight grip on power, refusing to let go and make way for newer generations. If things are getting worse, it's not because of the 18-25 year olds.

Those titles aren't irrelevant but in 2026 go up to a basketball fan and try to get them to believe there's some sort of importance in titles from the 40s and 50s. It's history for us but you're not winning an argument by bringing up something won 70-80 years ago.

Buddy, look at who is and has been running the world. It ain't the kids. Now reread your long post where you're complaining about the world. Repeat, kids aren't running the world you currently don't seem to like. Last I checked, it's a bunch of folks of, shall we say, advanced age calling most of the shots. They just refuse to retire because they enjoy power too much.

I could do this all evening but I'll stop here for now. Hopefully we get some commits soon because some of these posts are pretty out there and getting worse.

Appreciate the insult! Thar's certainly on par for a portion of this board, isn't it?

I gave you a proper response and in return got an angry insult. I'm 41. Lord help you if you're much older than that because that's not the way someone older should act towards others.

I assume your post is serious and will address it as such.
Kentucky is a national program and needs to recruit nationally to be successful.
You may "like your chances" ... but Kentucky would have absolutely no chance of being any kind of remotely competitive team ... ZERO !!
Losing in historic fashion wouldn't be good for anybody, even the devoted fans in Eastern Kentucky, much less the players themselves.

For reference: How many of the TOP 100 All-Time scorers in Kentucky history are from Kentucky, much less Eastern Kentucky ??

Note: It is interesting, if not very odd, that Kentucky has never had a player from South Carolina. What's that all about ??
Ky basketball needs to think International - agreed, To me that’s where the Kentucky Brand is still a recruiting tool.
Cart or Horse.?
Getting rid of Cal did hurt the brand.
Recruiting more 4 -5 year Kentucky kids & that includes kids from states that touch Ky Because Ky sports especially Basketball are broadcast regionally . That,s the reason some people consider Hawthorne a Ky kid. Right now we have 3 Ky players - 1 Tenn -1 WVa - 1 La.
I say recruit Jake Feldhaus & bring back Perry. Then go out & buy 4 studs. That’s 12 . Keeps the Locals happy & Put a very competitive team on the floor.

Well said.
So once again, you and another poster believe kids are ruining life...even though they aren't in control of the world.

I'm sorry but if you don't like what is currently happening in this sport or the world itself, look around you. Last I checked, most leaders out there are not kids. Heck, last I checked, most leaders have wrinkles and/or gray hair. SCOTUS ruled against the NCAA. Is SCOTUS made up of children? I know it's always been a thing to blame everything on newer generations while praising the one you belong to but those kids you don't seem to like aren't the problem. They're actually going to inherit lots of problems.

I'm with you. It started for me with Cal seemingly not caring about championships and only caring about draft night. Pope has been pretty pedestrian overall. Officiating has been horrendous for years. Now the NIL and transfer portal stuff. It's just not fun anymore. I hold on to it because I was born and raised to be a Wildcat fan. That's tough to let go of completely.

You want anger about everything step on a college campus these days.
Or he could've just read this board this season or the last several seasons or taken a gander at X and Facebook. Reddit for that matter too. How would someone feel after spending an entire afternoon on one of those four places?

I don't know who wins the great 'Anger War' but I don't think campuses are powder keds seething with anger about everything as you described. No one has recently gone on a college campus and thought, "My word! Look at this hellish, furious landscape. Everyone is so angry...about everything!" Now this board? X? Facebook? Reddit? Different stories.
