They definitely are struggling. Sometimes people believe the headlines and get laid back and before you know it they are getting drug around. Got to get the bats going. That is the big issue. No key hits when needed.

That’s my point essentially. Hitting is contagious. We’re accustomed to seeing a leader take the bull by the horns and lead. I don’t see that. And yes , I know we’re young.

Agree. We have been really bad in close games. But the lineup just isn’t good right now. At all.

I really don’t know what the deal is. I believe it has something to do with O’Conner’s semi rant after the Grambling game. He saw something was wrong, and we haven’t been right since.

Did he cause it? I don’t know.

Maybe we just aren’t as good as we thought. Our record against good teams is awful.

The thing is we really aren't that young though. All our position player starters are juniors or seniors except for Woodson and Parker.
Woodson has been terrible since SEC play started. Completely lost at the plate and defense has sucked. He's almost a guaranteed out when he comes to the plate. Reece has looked equally lost at times since SEC play started. Sullivan has been in a bad funk this year against teams with a pulse. I guess he isn't comfortable being DH. Chance's average has been steadily dropping, too, the last three weeks. And he hasn't homered all year. The team defense is very sloppy too. Was a nice throw by Parker, though, to recognize the double up opportunity at 2nd.

The rant was about the approach at the plate. Our batters were swinging big at breaking pitches outside and striking out. Georgia really capitalized and found the formula. Fastball in to get ahead, then sliders away until out or get behind in the count. Executing the fastball in and the slider away for strikes is lethal to us right now. Tennessee used the exact formula tonight.

Grit? It’s baseball. Grit has no place. Tis about the game of averages And who is hot enough to beat them.
This is the correct answer.

More effort at the plate is not gonna produce more hits. This ain’t linemen knocking heads in the trenches. More like golf where there’s only so much you can do to improve your stroke on a given day. You either are good that day or you’re not. Results are based on talent and ability to stay relaxed and focused. In the end, about talent and averages.

Deadgum learn how to adjust to different pitches. 4 or 5 strikeouts last night in the early innings were the same pitch. A couple of those strikeouts were second time to see that pitcher. If my wife can pickup on it why the crap don’t our coaches.

The first losses early in the season I chalked up to just not quite good enough. But last weekend and last night have been just a total shi& show. Come on BOC get this straightened out. You are getting paid way too much monies for this.

I would have loved to face that Appenzeller pitcher in my prime to understand what exactly does he have. His fastball was straight and topped out at 91. His breaking pitch looked pretty standard. He worked very quickly so you didn't have to wait. He threw strikes. He looked very hittable, but he seems to be tough against all hitters he faced this year with those stats. Sid Fernandez was that way in that even though he didn't gun fast, the ball just seemed to get on you.

Regarding hitting, agreed.

But where I saw the team fold was defensively in the 8th. Sitting back on balls instead of charging. Resulted in poor rushed throws. Which pulled the 1B off the bag. Also poor footwork by the 1B. At least on the fist review. He had to stretch towards home to catch the ball. His foot should have been on the corner of the bag. But it was in the middle.

All that to say, I thought in the top 8, defensively we looked on our heals.

We just can’t seem to get out of our own way. This team does just enough to lose. Marginal plays have not gone our way since OM. When is the last time we got a positive outcome on a review?

They are in quite the funk and idk if it’s grit or what but they have got to figure it out and quick if we want to do anything this year

Hate to admit because for a while it looked like we were goi g to exceed expectations so it’s disappointing, but I think this is the answer. It’s starting to show now that we are playing decent teams week after week.

I think his delivery is deceiving to hitters.

Uh no. You can call it what you want, but some players have a way of rising to the occasion and some players don't. And effort and concentration are just as important in baseball as it is an any other sport.
Correct. Call it grind, call it determination, whatever you may. It’s a mental toughness that is a refuse to lose mentality. Tiger in his prime, Mangum in pivotal at bats , etc.
