This morning, Iowa confirmed news that had been swirling for the past few days - officially hiring alum Jacob Warner to fill the recently vacated assistant coaching position on the men's wrestling staff:

(I believe the proper credit goes to @WillieTheBrain over at MacScouts for the first report.)

A five-time All-American (and 2022 NCAA finalist) for the Hawkeyes, Warner takes over for Bobby Telford, who'd been on staff since 2018.

Here's my story on the hire:

UPDATE: An Iowa spokesperson has since reached out to clarify that Warner has only been hired in a temporary role.

Per the spokesperson, the Iowa staff is expected to reconvene and complete the process of a permanent hire sometime after the US Open (April 21-26 in Las Vegas) and Pan-American Championships (May 7-10 in Coralville) have concluded.

When asked if Warner would be a candidate for the full-time position, the spokesperson indicated that he likely would be.

Am I the only one who finds this very odd?

Iowa compliance at its finest🙄
This 100% seems like an Iowa compliance thing. With that said, it is odd and I'm sure Jacob Warner knows he's the guy... but it's the first time I've seen someone announced as being hired for a role, then announced later that day that he was technically hired under temporary terms. At least, I can't think of another example like this off the top of my head.

The correction thing notwithstanding, Zadick was hired under temporary status and renewed a couple times if I remember correctly before they did a competitive process and selected Morningstar.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong

I'm sure this will probably sound like music to your ears, but it appears you are correct on Zadick also being hired on an "interim" basis for Iowa's staff previously: Brands to serve as U.S. World Team coach - Big 10 - InterMat

Great memory on that!

I can’t remember a grocery list my wife gave me but by golly I remember stuff like that. The brain works in mysterious ways. :ROFLMAO:
You're not alone. You just can't win a grocery run that is provided by the wife. The only way you can anymore is if she places the order and assigns you to pick it up. Otherwise, you missed something, you didn't get the right type, amount, or some other reason under the sun. LOL

With all that said, for what it's worth, if there's a Wrestling Fans Trivia Night in the future, you're clearly an asset to that team.
