When saying "I think" guys will be at this or that weight next year, how about giving some reasons why you think this. For instance when Vega literally says this is the last time I'll have to make this weight, that seems like a pretty good indication he's going up next year to me.

The way that Sergio talks about Swiderski makes it hard for me to believe that he takes Casey's spot his senior year but that could mean that he redshirts and Jordyn Raney wrestles 141, or Jax wrestles 141. It could also mean that Sergio makes the cut again to 141. I agree you give the Raney's at least 5 matches and so we should know what we have with each Raney. I am really interested what our coaches and our room do for the Raney's since they have wrestled in Kentucky ( not a great wrestling State). The same for Ross who if you watched the State Tournament know that he did not have any competition in Iowa or probably in the wrestling room. Wrestling with Konnor and Wyatt could really help Dreshaun.

We're not going to redshirt a returning undefeated national champion because he feels bad about hurting a teammate's feelings. This isn't junior high. Sergio and Swiderski are both professionals and understand well how this thing works.

Swiderski went 3-3 at NCAAs in the weakest of the 10 weights. He only scored 6.5 points. I like him and think he's a great kid with a bright future. But making room for Casey Swiderski is so far down priority list in how we arrange our lineup, you can't even see it.

I agree. Taylor's goal is to win the team championship. I think the best 10 guys in the room will start and the rest will either have to redshirt, ride the bench or leave. That's just the reality of being on a team like this now.

I see it more like earning your spot. It may be more extreme now because there’s denser talent in the room. Good news is that there are plenty of competitive opportunities outside of “collegiate folkstyle starting lineup”

Who gives wrestlestat info? Vega redshirt, Facundo at 165, Lockett at 174, Austin Johnson at Hwt, Raney at 133 and Jax at 141.

Isnt Jax wrestling 61 kg this month? That would be his Olympic weight too, right?

They’re kind of weird right now. Some teams have their lineups set and other ones don’t. I usually don’t pay much attention to their depth charts until closer to the season.

Saw this on X and I thought it was worth reposting here w/ a couple changes. I agree w/ it as far as these are the possibilities at each weight while leaning towards the first name listed as the starter based on who goes what weight.

25-Sprat/Ramirez/Zinkin
33-Jax/Ramirez/lil Raney (if Jax goes 33)
41-Jax/Jamison/Big Raney
49-Vega/Jamison/Swi/Big Raney
57-LRob/Routledge/Swi
65-Facundo/Dee/Routledge/ Swi (if Facundo goes down)
74-Facundo/Ryder (2nd sem)/portal/flip
84-White/Ryder
97-Merrill/Johnson
285- Ross/ surprise

My thoughts on a few things:

I think Ronnie drops and gets to see action at 125, along w/ Zinkin. Troy is in his last year and I think fewer matches keeps him healthier and hungrier. Could be all kinds of wrong there but I could see it.

If Jax does go 33 I do think it'll be Jamison at 41 w/ Big Raney nipping at his heels. If Tagen cant stay healthy or if Raney is putting up insane points we may see the true freshman here. Raney 100% gets his 5 dates.

Vega at 49 is what I see unless the coaches think a RS is in his best interest depending on how things are going in the room. Hard to doubt this guy. I wont rule out him going back to 41 unless he grows more. If that happens I expect Tagen and Swi to battle it out at 49. Throw the bigger Raney in this mix to keep it interesting.

Dont think Dee wants to shirt but I dont think its his choice. He scored the least amount of points of the team and may have scored the least amount of points in the tourney for a 5 seed (I havent checked that). If they shirt him I expect Alex here. Alex had a disappointing NCAAs but I think he'd be a monster 65. Nicco Ruiz will come in ranked #2 and does anyone doubt Alex can beat him? He was a smaller 74 and wrestled several of the good guys close.

If Dee doesnt shirt we'll see Alex back at 74. Myself and a few others are a bit perplexed we havent seen a big recruit or portal guy landed in this weight range. Maybe the staff think Ryder is definitely the future here? Everyone loves Ryder and I think he learned to listen better to the coaches out of necessity at NCAAs. Ish is about the only back up here but we need depth. Maybe we see Routledge putting on a ton of muscle???

Hearing tremendous things about Mikey. Like coaches are blown away kind of things. Kid is a sponge and you only have to tell him something once. Athleticism is mind boggling.

Love that Merrill is freestyling. This will give him an opportunity to work on more attacks.

Hearing Ross upper 230s.

How has Jayden Raney been doing? Do you think he redshirts this year?

61 kg is not one of the 6 Olympic weights. Those that do normally wrestle 61 kg have to go 57 or 65 to make the Olympic team.

Jamison at 141? Two years ago that was a heck of a cut I thought. No way he hasn't grown since then. Maybe just a better way to maintain weight with the new staff?

Also what about Cael Hughes? Is he still hurt? I really liked what I saw from him his redshirt year.

Jamison was preparing to try to come into the line up in January and it took longer for things to heal up. Was walking around at 150 managing his weight before it became apparent he'd need longer.

Not sure where Cael fits. Im a fan but IDK 🤷‍♂️

Any chance Doucet could get a medical? Every wrestler has some sort of injury, he only wrestled 3 post seasons. And last year he only wrestled one match after November, and it may have been before 2nd semester started even though it was in January because Wyatt didn't want to wrestle Air Force.

I doubt it. I don’t know how it could be before the 2nd semester if it was in January. Kinda seems like he’s ready to move on anyway

Classes Didn't begin until January 13th.
Right but the NCAA considers the start of the 2nd semester to be after classes end in December. Lamer was a 2nd semester transfer for Nebraska but he was able to wrestle in our dual against them because it was after Finals.

That would be awesome. I want Ross to redshirt. I recently watched his US Open match against Mirasola and he couldn't do anything against him and Mirasola isn't that good. I think Ross would greatly benefit from a redshirt year to get bigger and better. Who could fill in for one year at HWT?

I really want to see Facundo at 165. I think this option does wonders for both him and Lockett.

Is Ronnie a true 125 or 133? Or in between?

Jax can win any year at any weight. He will have a redshirt year and possibly an Olympic year if he wants to use them.

I think the Raneys being big-time Greco guys helps us keep them here even if one of them misses an NCAA tournament. Someone mentioned their primary aspirations are Olympic Champions. Again the 5-match rule helps as well.

Vega is going to 149, it's just a matter of when. Redshirt to get bigger and stronger makes sense.

If what you are hearing is true about Mikey can you imagine what he will be by his redshirt sophomore year?!?

I love the 5-match rule! With the 5 matches and open tournaments every wrestler can be involved and stay active, interested, and motivated. A redshirt year is not what it used to be. You're still a huge part of the team. You can win a dual for the team!

The 2028 is gonna be crazy and the 2029 team could be absolute insanity.

The thing is - Ross might just might be one of the 5 best heavy weights in college next year without a redshirt. Who are you going to get that you would head and shoulders rank abover Ross? AJ is a no go. I would take Feldman for a year. Other than that? I'm not sure who is a ton better than Ross right now. Heavy looks pretty bad next year.

If Doucet is given another year, it's a no brainer. If not, I would think we go with Ross for the same reasons you mentioned.

Willie and Basch raised a good point about Ross talking about what a leap it is from the competition he’s wrestling in high school to who he’ll wrestle in college. He’s literally a man among boys in high school wrestling dues stressed about an algebra exam. When he gets to college it’ll be grown men with ex wives and mortgages. That’s not saying he can’t/won’t beat a lot of those guys, but a year to roll with Wyatt, Doucet, and DT and pack on some more muscle would set him up to be a favorite (imo) in 2027.

It’s a fine line between being a healthy fan of the sport/team and needing to reprioritize my life but was watching a Tik Tok live this fine evening with Mikey White and he mentioned he’s currently at 202lbs but plans on going 184 this year. Has no intention of redshirting and referenced “some guy being brought in (Berge)”, but they both have 4 months to get better, then “best man wins”. Is going to WTT for U20’s.

I would be shocked if he's the starter this fall. No knock on him at all, but he just started wrestling 4 years ago or something and it's a big jump from being a supreme athletic high schooler to college.

If he is, then that just means we got a potential superstar being able to come in and start right away on one of the best college programs in the country.

Wasn’t sure which thread to put this in, but I finished watching the climb yesterday and damn do I have so much more respect for our team and staff. Seeing behind the scenes, the vulnerability to share their thoughts and process, the ups, dealing with emotions of loss…. Them dudes are TOUGH and so dang inspiring. Now I want to go throw a tire and clean my house and be a good parent! Look out world! lol

Mark Schultz another example of limited experience out of high school, although I think he only wrestled two years which is insane.

He wrestled as a true freshman and did not AA. Then transferred to Oklahoma, redshirted and proceeded to win 3 NCAA championships.

I am maintaining reasonable expectations for all of our incoming freshmen, and Michael White is no different.

He will of course win a national championship, but could struggle at times to bonus high-level competition and might slip up and even drop a bout or two in regular season.
