Polishing diamonds is super easy. That's why Iowa has killed it with blue chip recruits over the last decade.

But hey...let's go round and round on this again. It would be fun, because you'd get wrecked...again. lol
Who are their diamonds, now compare them to Cael and Taylors... youll see how they compile lots of diamonds compared to, whatever list youre about to say... wrecked?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 only the really special window lickers think they are wrecking anyone on this... oh yeah, Taylor a goat coach after 1 yr 1🤣🤣🤣🤣 ****** clown

I said what I said. The longer Iowa keeps thinking the way you are, the longer and deeper this drought will become. PK was a higher level recruit than Haines.
Facundo was higher than Kennedy and Haines, he failed to AA at both PSU and OSU. SVN was a higher recruit than Henson and Valencia. Your big board ranking doesn't win you a title.

You think the majority of people here think coaching doesn't matter?

Agreed. But it isn't just a case of Iowa just picking the wrong ones and PSU and others picking so many right ones.
Nobody said coaching isn’t important — what people are saying is that recruiting is even more important. Now, you can argue that recruiting is coaching and then the point is moot. But, go argue with someone else because I think you sort of suck!

See, you and I basically agree. But the guy I replied to, the guy who I replied to that you used to "dunk" on me, holds a different opinion. He said "little" to do with it. And he said it multiple times and here are just a few:

I dont think some of you can read or comprehend words... I said coaching has little to do with these guys

coaching has very little to do with it

He also had Robideau and Vega pegged as true freshman NCAA champions before they stepped on campus. Truly impressive!

I dont think you guys know who Vega and Robideau were before they came to college...these guys were already top contenders before heading to okie st,

Correct. Haines and PK were both blue chip recruits, with Kennedy rated a little better than Haines as a recruit. Haines won 2 NCAAs and was 2nd and 3rd in his other 2 season, while PK was a 2-time AA with a 3rd and a 4th and got teched by Haines in the semis in their senior year. If instead PK went to PSU and Haines to Iowa, PK would have been a multi-time champ while Haines would be competing just to be on the podium every year. You have to have blue chips, but it's the program/culture/coaching that gets more guys over the top at PSU (and now at Ok St).

To be completely fair, I think this post is "out there." To say things with such certainty is wild. Believing PSU has superior coaching and runs a better program is one thing, but proclaiming NCAA champs is another. Do I think PK would have done better at PSU? Yes. Do I think Haines would have done as well at Iowa as he did at PSU? No. It's nothing I can prove, and as we have seen with a few guys like Facundo, it isn't universal. Not even Gable had a 100% hit rate, but I do believe PSU is currently better at getting the most out of wrestlers overall.

Do you guys really think that Buchanan would’ve progressed from not on the big board to 3rd had he started at Iowa? I don’t because there is zero precedent to say he would’ve. Development needs to get better.

Columbia, Penn, Princeton, indiana, Rider and American as well.

I would hope for 1-2 on down year, 5 on a really good year, 3-4 in most years.
Doug never saw a wrestler he couldn't burn out by NCAAs.

Doug does a GREAT job with development, and consistently has tough dual teams, great regular seasons - but can't put it together at the end of the year. I believe the highest number of AAs he's ever had is 3. And there's absolutely no reason he should have 0 in a year, if he's as good of a coach as some on here believe.

Pretty much this. And yet he's had no AAs 4 times. And there was a 4-year run from 2021-2024 where his only AA was Keckeisen. That's incredible. Burnout and injuries abound in that program.

I like Doug. Great dude. He's fun. He has exactly the job he should have.

i'm pretty sure i get it now.

Corby was fired and now you're the one on the payroll.

i kid, i kid!

He was, but I get him saying out loud he wasn't. Probably not official channels, but there were talks with some people. Enough that he initially thought he was going.

Payroll? pssshhh... I wish. I could leave this corporate M-F, 8-5 plug in. I'm still the same guy.

You're a corporate guy now? 9 -5? Do you bring your lunch in or go out?

You've got it right on Warner. We need(ed) an upper weight coach who is proven. That was the case with Jacob thru last August. He was great for SB, Ben, Angelo while with the HWC when he was not competing but helping them and many others. We will see the results with the upper weights.

Yes Jacob worked for us since last August. He very much impressed me while a student. I asked him to come out to our Analyst/Intern week long summer training sessions for a couple years and he hit it out of the park. As he wrapped up his time at HWC he decided to join us. His passion is wrestling. When this spot opened, and he was asked, he decided to follow his passion. Can anyone be surprised.

He will be a great coach. He would be great at anything he does.

Unfortunately, I've been a 8-5, corporate sales guy since Covid. Had to change gears after being let go due "employee salary reduction" (that they still took the Covid pay-your-employees-loan for). Been a grind ever since to make some headway. Finally seeing some light in the tunnel.

Re: lunch. Combination of both. I meal prep and take leftovers mostly. Treat myself to "out" food once a week depending on how busy I am.

Jacob is an amazing human. As I said, I will suffer no slander on this board regarding his ability and proficiency as a coach. If there truly is a "coach in waiting" plan, that consists of people in the building - I think Jacob should be it.

I hope the job keeps getting better

We'll have to compete on leftovers as I'm the "champion leftover eater"

As far a taking over, that's a long way away, but JW certainly has what it takes

There's no competition. I purposely make MORE than enough every night to ensure I get leftovers. I can't eat them the next day though. So usually a meal prep on monday, so I don't eat the same thing two days in a row. For some reason I can't handle that.

Get Meyer Shapiro in the room and watch a different style of wrestling:

I love Crookham, Zepeda, Shapiro. Get them all. Then, pray they Will Denny jumps into the portal and call it a grand slam
I would love this. Not happening, but would be a homerun in the portal and fill need weights with even 3 of the 4.

i wouldn't count Iowa out for Meyer. He's called several programs. Someone said Iowa, but i did not confirm that.

He's going to NCST this weekend.

that being said, he seems to be all over the place, so I really have no confidence in predicting any landing spot for him.
To be honest, I think Meyer is "all over the place" in much more than just his transfer landing spot. He is super talented and a title contender if he pulls it together, so definitely worth the risk imo for anyone that he is looking at. I honestly thought he was going to win it all 2 years ago before his serious health issues.

I just feel the @vhslum and @bnicolls are not playing by the rules of the cesspool. No name calling and being cordial is not what happens here. Please refrain from that in the future.

Shapiro is a lot of fun to watch. I wouldn’t predict him to Iowa but would be a great get especially since he could benefit the hwc after this year. Honestly shocked how his career has played out, I thought he would be a multiple time champ but injuries have definitely slowed him down.

JW was a tough wrestler, hard noise, grid it out kind of style, sure hes a great guy and a fine coach... but holy hell if hes the HC
coach in waiting Iowa wrestling would be in a world of hurt... I mean no one's gonna pick going to wrestle for J Warner over Cael or Taylor or many other big names out there
