Berkeley is a dump. UCLA's fortunate that it's a lacrosse ball throw from Bel Air. That helps them a lot in recruiting and otherwise.

Knowing a bunch of their alums/boosters, they suffer from similar issues that we have, including NIL. Their football team is in bad spot. No on campus stadium is really hurting them. SoFi is incredible but it's going to be much of the same for them.

Pauley Pavilion is old and dilapidated. At least it's right on campus though. They obviously have a lot of history to draw on, which they do, but that only gets you so far. They had that stud Mara on their team last year but Michigan swooped in and took him. Ucla couldn't afford him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I got the impression over the years that, because it's private, USC alums are more likely to donate and (some) donate big. UCLA alums, although there are exceptions, expect the state to provide funding.
USC is a completely different animal. They have an incredible network out here. It's very tight. They run LA. They do a really good job of instilling in students that when you graduate, you are expected to give. And they do, in large numbers. Throw in some uber wealthy alums that can move some mountains and you get what they have. NIL warchest, and new facilities being built all the time. They just started a women's lacrosse program going varsity in 2013. They already have a lacrosse only facility. As it distinctly says around their campus, "We play for championships". They live it. When they started their women's program their AD was quoted as saying something to the effect of, "we don't field teams to field teams. We field teams to win championships, and we will support them with what is needed to do so."

They haven't won a championship in lacrosse yet, but it won't surprise anyone when they do.

UCLA has won over 100 championships across sports themselves, but I really believe it is location. Many are in soccer and softball. Those are sports that this area breeds athletes in like crazy. The location allows them to cover the warts of facilities, which I am telling you if you haven't seen them, are terrible.

wLacrosse. Stanford, Cal, USC, Oregon, Washington, San Diego St., and probably some others I am not remembering. Youth boys/girls lacrosse is growing very rapidly out here. Once it became a CIF sanctioned sport (varsity), it's really taken off. They are producing a lot of D1 players now. Utah/Denver are the most western men's programs.

I believe the top recruit in the 27 class is from Ca. Sandstorm is a massive tournament held where Coachella is held. Huge polo ground fields. It's the biggest tournament in the country. Think thousands of kids and over 500 teams.

Rec leagues are growing like crazy. Daughter is in her first season at a San Diego County public high school. They’ve played a top 25 national team from PA as well as top teams from Colorado and New York. Evidently teams like to travel out here for their spring break to play. Smart teams.

Was hoping to catch RU women’s team out here last week versus SDSU and USC, but no luck with our schedules.

Teams from the West have been going back East and competing very well. With the number of athletes in Ca., it's only a matter of time before you are seeing some of these schools become the most dominant. Schools like Loyola in LA are investing in the sport. They produce a ton of D1 talent across the sports landscape and lacrosse is/will be no different.

I'm not burned out by RU sports. The beauty of sports is that there's always the next game, next season, next player, next coach etc. I don't carry losses or losing seasons with me. Rather I carry any wins or the good times I have attending or watching with family and friends as well as watching my kids grow up going to RU games from 3 years old (now they are 17 and 21).

I'm the type that if/when my team is able to win some type of notable game or even championship, I'll watch and read and consume the positive coverage for a significant amount of time. Conversely, after a big loss, or any loss....I'll leave or turn off the TV and not really look back or rehash with any significance. No sense feeling bad about things I cant control.....I follow sports looking for positive enjoyment, not negative.

Mara averaged 8 and 13 minutes a game at UCLA when he was there. What happened?

Clubs like Mad Dog and West Coast Starz have taken CA lax to next level. Been to Sandstorm it’s legit and in 5 years CA will rival some of the traditional lax hotbeds. Only issue is high school competition not where it needs to be and all the summer club events are east coast so CA kids basically live in MD/DE from June-July.

Apologies for breaking any posting rules, don't post much outside of Men's lacrosse. But I don't know about the rest of you but I'm worn out or worn down by Rutgers sports. Almost every other team in the B1G conference can hang their hat on at least one sport but us.

For UCLA, football may suck but hey, they just won a national championship in women's basketball and their men's soccer team won a conference tourney championship. Penn St may be rough for football and basketball but they have wrestling and and ice hockey. Nebraska has their amazing women's volleyball team. Maybe tough to be a Michigan State football fan but they have hockey and basketball to look forward to. Washington, yup, their women's soccer team is a conference champion and oh yeah, beat us for a conference title in women's crew. Northwestern has field hockey and women's lacrosse that are consistently at the top. On and on and on.

But us, even when we have a sport that breaks through, like field hockey, it's for one year and then back to meh.

Really hope Tate and Zinn can turn this around. Because I can't handle anymore chances of an epic win only for it to literally slip through our fingers. Sorry for the rant but just getting bummed out by Rutgers sports (if you are a men's lacrosse fan, you know why).
What limits my enthusiasm for the major sports is that Rutgers doesn’t have the money to compete for the best players ! I know they never got the best players but like Indiana showed if u are willing to pay u can win !

Indiana didn’t get all the best players year 1 or year 2…they are getting them for year 3 after proven success. While they spent $$ they didn’t spend like the blue bloods yet they still won.

they had amazing coaching and kids who had massive experience

all I see on here is one excuse after another over the years about Rutgers —- we don’t have the right facilities, we can’t afford top coaches, we dont have enough NIL.

I get it this school invests poorly in every way but we now have facilities no one cares about…we clearly pay Coach and assistants VERY well…we still lack NIL to compete and now that’s the hot topic to lay blame to.

we clearly had talent for bball wit two top 5 picks. We clearly had talent on offense for football last year (defense was putrid but also terrible coaching). We clearly could not beat teams that we weren’t expected to…maybe we need to look at coaching here

Despite all the facts, you’ll never be able to convince most people that Cuban didn’t buy them a title. It’s a lazy narrative but one people love to rely on.

100% agree that coaching needs much more blame.
