Which has not even been open 24 hours. Last count I saw was 2,901 out of 5,607 players.

No matter how crazy you think it is, it keeps getting crazier.

Over half is completely beyond absurd.
it's just ridiculous, almost no point in bothering with recruiting the high school players now as it's practically a waste of time

I believe the greed and ambition of coaches has also played a role in this, for decades many of them have been chasing bigger and better opportunities.
When Jim Carlen was Head Coach at USC, his annual salary was $67,200. If you adjust that figure for inflation, that salary today would be $245,000. Do you know what Shane Beamer's salary is? I'll tell you. $8 MILLION per year.. Is there anything more ridiculous than what college coaches are getting paid? This is the "Gilded Age" of college coaching. I'm all for people getting paid fairly. But there is something very screwed up in our culture.
