Agents for the best players in the portal (who I assume/hope we are trying to land) know full well that UK/Pope is desperate to kill it in the portal. Why have their clients rush into a commitment as soon as the portal opens when you can leverage the next 11-12 days for a bigger payday? I'm not saying I like that college basketball has come to this, but this is just the landscape with which we are currently dealing.

Agree. Pope needs to get something positive out there. Right now players leaving, coaches leaving all coming off a mediocre at best season is all fans are seeing. Need something, anything, positive and soon.
I am sure the agents put the squeeze on everyone involved in the offer process to get top $$$, so there is constant bargaining going on.
Using last season isn't the best example to support your point. UK missed on Dent, Wilson, Ament, Wilkerson, Demary, Mullins, Yaxel, Jackson, and other primary targets before it ended up with second and third options at every position.

The staff has contacted a lot of players. Not many have committed to schools yet thankfully. Popes gotta find guys that fit his style of play more than anything this time with the portal.

They are waiting on Stokes. If he takes 6-7-8 million without him UK can get 3-4 more players. Is Stokes worth 7-8 million? For PR yes but for team building I am no.

Providence prioritized Byrd, but if you have FF aspirations, you can't prioritize a guy that shoots 30% from 3. Byrd obviously wanted more money than he is worth, Providence paid it, UK didn’t. It was the right move by Pope.
Apparently we lead the SEC in most transfers? We literally have to put together a whole team. Things need to fall in place quickly or we’re going to be left holding the bag again.
