The Tennessee player who just committed to VT numbers are not eye popping. They could have gotten a better player from that team than her since the whole team is in the portal. She is a project player right now IMO. With all the other players that are in the portal. VT could have gotten someone better than that. Also, Zam Jones did show out in the tournament especially when Brooke's got hurt. This is why she is ranked high. I think her ranking is about right. She can create her own shot and can score. She is fast and is a true PG.
I think Zam Jones is a need for our team. There isn't enough quickness at the guard position currently. When we play a very athletic team we have trouble getting the ball across mid court and when we do we do not have anyone who can beat their defender with the dribble. Then we need pure shooters, players who can make wide open shots.

I get it, but the price is probably more than CB wants to extend on a position that in my view point is not a dire need. The 4 and 5 spots are where we need an upgrade in my opinion.

We can win a lot of games with the guards we have but when we play the top 10 teams in the country we will always struggle to win. You have to have a guard that is quick enough to get the ball up court and start a play for the offensive.

"Virginia Tech transfer Carys Baker was one of the bigger names to enter the portal this week. The 6-2 junior from West Hartford (CT) averaged 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game last season for the Hokies.

Sources told On3 that Baker has set a visit to North Carolina for this weekend, which would keep her in the ACC"

I have added Baker to the original post in the thread

The Texas thing is very odd. All rotation players who were on a final four team. Again, it must be finances. Players seem to love playing for Vic.

Pitt now has 13 players in the portal. I don't believe they have any 2026 recruits but correct me if I am wrong.

The only two players remaining are:
  • Jenkins who averaged 3.9 ppg before tearing her ACL in January and would be questionable to be ready for next fall.
  • Arzner who was the last player on their bench, scored a single bucket in just 4 games
Complete rebuild for their new coach Robin Harmony who came from CoC

Some in the portal will not get what they were hoping for, no doubt. Rolling the dice for a better opportunity ends up being them settling for a less ideal one.

But if you are a D1 player and you do not finding a landing spot in D1 or D2, then that almost always means that you are not in good academic standing or otherwise not in a position to play basketball on scholarship.

There are zero requirements to enter the portal. But any athlete, by rule, has to be in good academic standing at their previous institution to exit the portal. It is just like in the real world when someone quits their job to avoid getting fired and then cant find a new job, because their resume is not stellar.

These services all rate Zam Jones, do I guess I was wrong on that eval.

But also note that Carys Baker is probably higher than you might have thought.

Taliyah Henderson is only ranked by USA Today, way down in the 60's behind many mid-majors. I will eat my hat is she is indeed on the 60th best player in this year's portal.

I know it seems like we’re tight on money but can we please go after one of the Texas players? They know what it takes to compete with the top 4 teams.

Kaelyn Carroll in the portal
Followed by CB, Blanca, Harpring,

6-3 Soph F Kaelyn Carroll 11.8 3.4 ppg, 31% from 3 (mostly took 3's), 2.2 rpg,

#18 2025 recruit, McD A-A in HS

We offered last year, she visited, not sure she ever did a finalist list, but we were always mentioned as a one in consideration. "She chose Kentucky over finalists including South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Minnesota, North Carolina and Villanova."

I hate that this what the game is now but this seems to be the best way for CB to build a contender with our resources. A couple 5 stars that you retain (NB, KH) and then you try to buy low on blue chip pedigree talent with low production in the portal (Elina last year, Carroll)

Talia Goodman now lists 85 ACC players in the portal, which is an average of 4.7 per school, assuming she has caught all of 'em so far.

The only four P4 schools who currently have no players in the portal:
  1. Vandy
  2. UofSC
  3. UCLA
  4. ND
ND doesn’t really count. Only like 10 scholarship players and 8 exhausted eligibility or entered draft. Not like they’re attempted to retain anything other than HH.
