Was not disappointed to hear this actually. He’s not a good shooter and misses a lot of free throws. He rebounded, but for his height he wasn’t very good taking the ball to the rim. I think Fred can get better players than him.

What’s it accomplish to take shots at him . This is a business now . It’s obvious by the goodbye thank you he sent that he understands it’s a business and doesn’t take it personal. Maybe you And others that are taking shots at him should take notes.
I don’t think it’s taking shots at all. I think it’s being realistic. I thank him for his services the last two years. But you have to admit he was/is a player with limitations. He contributed. But going forward, if Fred wants to continue this success, he’s going to need better players than Berke. Fred’s offense requires shooters. He’s not a good shooter.

Especially when you only have a finite number of years to play. It's not like he can "work up the ladder" or "put in his time" and in 10+ years he'll make bank.
That is the part that a lot of (selfish) fans don't seem to understand.

You basically have 5 years...that is it.

I think continuity is big. I would rather not replace the whole lineup. Honestly, with his attitude, I thought he might be ok losing minutes. We would have likely seen some year over year improvement too.

If the reports are true that Berke was really asking for $2 million, there's no way we could pay him that much. That's like 1/4 of our total budget, for a guy who averaged 6 points and 5 rebounds a game. If you give him that much, then Frager and Sandfort are going to want $3-4 million each.

The reality of the situation is that we don't have the money to compete with the blue bloods for the biggest name transfers. Fred is going to use the moneyball approach and find underrated guys that he believes will buy in and fit in his system.

Nobody is giving him $2 mil. Not even deep-pocketed blue bloods.

NIL will eventually work itself out over time. There isn’t an endless stream of money to be spent on players. When the results don’t show up on the court, either coach or players or both are gone. People that contribute large sums of money often want just a wee bit of say so in the operation which can cause problems. When players have wild expectations to their worth and are not picked up for their unrealistic price tag, word will get around and there be roster spots open for all of them just like in football.

Probably not, but that's what his agent asked for. The top big guys are commanding $4-5 million. Somebody will probably give him more than we are willing to pay. His stats aren't eye-popping but he does have three years of experience in the Big Ten including starting on a Sweet 16 team. Not too many 6'10 guys in the portal with that experience.

He was wildly inconsistent. He is not 6'10. I like Berke, but he is not worth 2 million

We'll see what he's worth. The National Champs just added a transfer post who's only started 13 games in his career and averaged 10 points/5 rebounds this year. His stats are not much better than Berke's and he's far less experienced. He reportedly asked for $3 million.
